I am middle aged and started losing my hair quite a bit about one year ago. It is getting worse. I don't know why it's happening, nor what to do about it. I've been searching the internet trying to find answers.
My GP doesn't take it very seriously. A dermatologist I saw didn't examine me, just asked questions for 2 minutes, asked what I thought it was and when I said 'female pattern baldness' he said he thought the same.
I've been trying every thing I can to stop the shedding, itchiness and burning sensation, such as hormone therapy, various vitamins, protein powder, organic shampoo etc.
I am desperate and it is affecting my life and making me totally miserable. I am getting extremely depressed over it bc I feel so helpless and no one seems to help me.
To me, it's as bad (or worse)than being diagnosed with a terminal illness. It is causing more stress in my life. I have enough already :s
I am getting blood work done to try to find out what it is, and seeing an Endocrinologist soon, but have my doubts about an answer :s
Any one have an answer??? I am not sure what I have, or what it's caused from.
I am semi-vegetarian by the way and won't change that.
It's destroying my life :(
Thank you for reading :)

I can see how frustrated you must be! But I think the derm is right, it it's androgenetic baldness, there's no cure...but why not try Rogaine? Is there a reason you can't just keep using it? With any kind of treatment, you have to continue it "forever" so unless there is a medical reason not to, I would try it.
Hello and welcome! I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I don't think being a vegetarian has anything to do with hair loss -- so that's a good thing. Have you gone to a dermatologist who has knowledge of alopecia? Not all derms do. Leslie Ann
