I am 35 years old and I have had Alopecia Areata since I was 18. I struggled with people asking me if I had cancer and what was wrong with me until I couldn't stand it anymore. Someone at work suggested I get a weave since I do have some hair. That process gave me an awful headache and still didn't always give me the natural look I had longed to have. So I bought a wig 4 years ago and it made the biggest difference in my appearance which made a huge difference in my attitude. I wear a wig now anytime I am outside my house. I have never met or talked to another person with any form of Alopecia. My dermatologist here says he has seen other cases but my is by far the worse he has seen. (Lucky me.) Of course he says there is no ryhme or reason to this and so I am stuck. I have very supportive friends and family, but I still question are there really others like me? I have tried many experimental treatments to no success. I think I actually feel better now that I am not taking steriod shots or squaric acid treatments. So, I guess I am here basically to see that 'They do exist'....maybe see how others are coping with this and maybe learn something about Alopecia.
