About Me:
I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in July, 2009. It's been a frustrating road trying to understand what it is, what causes it, and most of all how to treat it. My situation is complicated by the fact that 2 of my cats had hair loss at the same time, and they haven't been clearly diagnosed either. So we're not sure if it's coincidental or if we are sharing some medical problem, which is apparently possible. I've been to my doctor, 2 dermatologists and a feline dermatologist (do you believe they have such things?). Nothing showed up as a medical problem for me, we're still waiting for the cats' test results, and so far I've gotten a topical scalp medicine that another dermatologist then suggested I stop using and gave me a shot instead. Despite asking lots of questions, I've gotten no real or helpful answers or information--most of what I've learned has been from my own research. The cats are doing OK--their hair is starting to grow back. But mine is still getting worse and I am at a loss about how to proceed. I meet with my dermatologist again soon, and I plan to pin her down more with questions. which has been surprisingly hard to do. I'm continuing to learn what I can and just hoping for the best.

Hi Cass,
I know how you feel believe me I have had this since I was 10 the things I have learned if your eyebrows fall ot ask your dermatologist for a liquid called diprolene you use it on them twice a day and mine came back. I had the shots in my scalp and many tests but for me no insight some say its stress all they told me is that it was my immune system working against me. I wear false eyelashes both bottom and top it just takes practice but I am looking into the lace wigs. If you need anything let me know kim

Hello and welcome, Cass,
It's interesting that you talk about hair loss in your cats coinciding with your own. That happened to me with one of my dogs, and now one of my cats.
Anyway...I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. Let me know if you need help or support. One thing that you might be interested in is my book, written for women, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" (It just won two national awards!) It has a lot of good info in it, it can answer many questions, and it's a fun read, too. You can find out more on my page. It's available on Amazon.com, and on this site under "Bookshelf."
Let me know if there's anything else I can do! I am here to help.
