Hi, my name is Cathy and I am the mother of a 14 year old with Alopecia Areata. She was diagnosed at the beggining of last year, one month or so before her 13th birthday. She had several patches, which she managed to cover up, that is unless she put her hair up. By the end of summer the hair began to grow back, and we thougth it was safe to go back in the water again. Lo & behold fallout began again in November. She is handling this all pretty well so far and I am very proud of her. Would welcome any hair growth tips and advice for teenagers anyone may have. Thanks!
Try and have your daughter watch my video on my profile. I think it might be inspiring. It's not quite PG, but it might get he to relate to what she's going through.
At this point she does not have a page. She asked if she could have her own page but never really followed up. If your daughter wants someone to talk to that has alopecia, I can ask my daughter if she wants to email. She occasionally corresponds with a girl in New Zealand who also just wanted a friend with alopecia. Interestingly enough, they never talk about the AA just about random girl stuff.
Her wig is not a vacuum but she is getting a vacuum, which will hopefully be ready in July.
Oh, I forgot to tell you -- yes, I wear wigs all the time. I have AU, so I have no eyebrows or eyelashes. In my book there are a lot of makeup and beauty tips too.

Hi Again!
Hey, your spunky daughter might get a lot from my book!
It's called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" There's quite a bit of inspiration and help in there. It's fun to read, too...
if you want to check it out, go to my page and click on my web site...and if you decide to get it, let me know how she likes it!
