- I had ovarian cancer at 38 (10 years ago) and went through surgical menopause at that time. Due to my type of tumor HRT was "out of the question" and we just suspect the hormone swing set off progressive hair loss. I think this would have happened to me later in life even without the early menopause, but since that was my experience, what would have happened to me in my 60's is happening to me in my 40's. It has been very hard on me and finding this website has been so helpful to me psychologically and emotionally. I don't feel so alone now, and this has been one place I can find really constructive advice on how to deal better with my situation. I'm
