- I have had alopecia since I was 12 years old. It has visited me in varied degrees throughout the years. I am 55 now and it has kicked into high gear. I just abandanded 3 years of cortizone shots to stimulate hair regrowth. Some would grow back and other areas would fall out. UNCLE...no more shots. So much hair is gone now that I could no longer hide it. Because there was nothing left to do I shaved my! OMG....what revelation! I no longer have to attempt to hide my bald spots because they are right there for all to see. I don't shave my head totally...just 1/4 inch guard. So, I look kind of like I have had some kind of surgery. I am still adjusting. Summer is coming and I will be coming out to my small town. So I'm bald...not a big deal in the larger picture.
