- I'm a 39 yr old BALD mom & wife ~ with alopecia areata. I was first diagnosed in high school with a quarter sized bald spot, but the cream worked & my hair came back. I had completely forgotten about the incident until last May when a quarter sized bald spot returned....by mid June when I finally went to the doctor, I had about 4-5 (that I could see) bald spots. The doctor confirmed I had alopecia areata & prescribed cream....it didn't work this time. Instead it burned my scalp so I discontinued use. By the 1st full week in July I had so many bald spots that I could no longer cover them with my hair. The 2nd Monday in July, I made the decision to shave my head. I had read the night before that there was NO cure & no FDA approved treatments, therefore I was going to embrace this disease & make the most of it. (Not to mention I was SICK of seeing my hair fall out!) I have been bald ever since!
