Working mom of 3. Discovered my first patch in December of 2013 (currently 2.5 months ago), following a fever of 39 deg Celsius and a very hectic week with minimal sleep (my youngest had been struck with the flu as well). Anyhow have AA for now, but one of the various dermatologists I have visited over the course of the last several weeks has actually diagnosed me with AU... Since then have found more smaller spots, with the original still expanding. At the same time, there is some growth in the first patch... I guess I am preparing myself mentally in the case that I must go bald.
