I was dianogsed with alopecia areata around two months ago, a few weeks after my sixteenth birthday. There's been ups and downs (mostly downs). I'm still getting used to it and its been hard. At times I think that I've come to terms with this, but many times I still here myself thinking "Why me?" I am grateful for my friends and family, and I'm so glad that I've found this site. I look forward to meeting others who have alopecia and connecting with them.

my hair is still falling out. i believe all of it will fall out within the month. on the verge of shaving it but i still have enough around the fringe that you can't tell so much when i am wearing a hat.
that being said, i am noticing growth all over my head. it's a bit hard to see, but my sister confirmed it this weekend. it has now been almost 2.5 months since this whole thing started.
Hello and welcome,Jessica !
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It's especially helpful for those who are newly diagnosed, like you. If you're interested, you can find out more on my page -- and let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Hey Jessica!!
Thanks for the message! I really like my partial hair piece that I have because I wasn't quite ready to shave it all off and get a full wig, but I really wanted to have more hair at the same time! I think your very best would be to go to a stylist (I went to one who specialized in hair pieces and wigs...maybe you can find one in your area?) and get them to play around with it and find a style that works well and that is easy. They might have to cut some of your existing hair or blend it in etc. I always wanted to wear my hair up because I kept it long and I hated all my hair falling out all over my clothes. It's sometimes hard to get used to it, but I think once you find a style that works well you can just do it everyday. Mine was extra crazy because when it got wet in turned super curly! Anyways, the style that worked best for me was to pull my exisitng hair at the front over the hair piece to cover the line of the hair piece ( I don't know if that makes ANY sense..sorry). I bet it would work with bangs too...but definitely go to a professional and get them to help you out. Good luck with it! Talk to you soon jessica!
