- My name is sarahjane. I am 31yrs old and i have a baby boy named taylor. I have had alopecia on and off for years. It starts with a little patch of hair missing and then i will feel painful tingles around the area and then the spot gets bigger and and when it reaches about the size of a plum it will stop there and remain bald for sometimes over a year. I will have anywhere between 1-10 patches during the alopecia cycle. It sucks. I hate it. The worst is when i have a patch right on the top of my head, it makes it harder to hide. I am joining this group in hopes of not feeling so alone in this anymore and hopefully maybe finding out some tricks or solutions for dealing with this! I have tried the prescription cortisone cream, the cortisone injections into the scalp (ouch!) and I've also tried the Prendisone steroid meds. The steroids I think may have worked and the hair
grew back last time, either that or the alopecia had just run its course, I'm not sure. It is pretty hard medication and there are crappy side effects, such as weight gain in the face! Haven't tried anything yet this time around, I am hoping I can just hide it long enough for this cycle to finish without having to go on the meds, but I guess we will see what happens in the next few months.
