- I have had the Mirena IUD for almost three years now and will be getting it removed this Friday at 10am!!!! For the past 6 months I have noticed more and more hair loss around my hairline... mainly, hair-thinning than hair loss or bald patches. But in the shower when washing my hair more and more are coming out, a lot more than any-kind of normal! Thats why Im here and found this wonderful informative sight! I read and read over the side-effects and it only says "hair loss"... but didnt really put it together until I read all these posts. Luckily I have very, very thick and curly hair, or I would be bald by now because of all the hair that comes out when I wash my hair!
The other side-effects I have experienced was the oily skin and breakouts that seem to never end! My hair is also extremely oily, which I had never ever had in my life!!! I have always had normal to dry skin and my hair was always on the dry side and didnt have to wash daily like I do now! If I wash my hair in the evening before I go to bed, by the morning it has accumulated too much oil on it for me to straighten in the morning and it looks like thick, oily, dirty straightened hair... my skin is also sooo oily, with all these things that have been going on, I thought were just the normal process of hormone change and my age. Needless to say I started researching the only thing that is in my body... MIRENA!
Im astounded to see that all along it was this medication.
It will be removed this Friday... yay!!!! Cant wait to stop being a BITCH, stop being DEPRESSED, and hopefully get back the feeling of wanting to have sex, which since the very day I got this IUD in, I have had ZERO sex drive... defiantly not like me to not want sex! Geez, by boyfriend is going to be so happy when I get this out! The reason why I though about the Mirena causing this was because he said to me, after us fighting, was he just wanted the Stephanie he knew back. He told me he thinks it is the hormones from the BC I was on... ding, ding! Not to mention, alot of these things started (the mood swings, and lack of interest in sex) the very month I got it in.
Wow! I figured, I would deal with all those side-effects in order to not have to take a pill daily and not get pregnant, but when this hair thing started... NOT!!!!!!!
Also... I know Im going on and on, but I was informed by another site that the Depo shot and this Mirena hormone are the same, and they both have the similar side effects. Well, knowing that I see why Im not ever going to the GYN that prescribed me this contraceptive, because I had very bad side effects from the Depo shot. I bled for 3 months, like a heavy,clotty period from the first injection until the medication got out of my system about 3mo. later and I had hair thinning as well, not as bad as I do now.
Just in awe that my Doc would promote me into getting the same hormone again after being put thru all that!
