My alopecia areata first started in May 2009 with my facial hair turning white. The hair on my head started falling out in patches in September 2009. I have a few allergies and I heard that alopecia affects people with allergies more than people without. From what I hear a lot of cases happen after a traumatic event...mine started not long after being made redundant, so not sure if they are linked.
I lost about 50% of the hair on my head and a lot of my facial hair. I also lost hair in patches on my arms and legs. The Doctor told me that it was unlikely my facial hair would ever grow back dark.
It is now 3 years since I noticed my hair falling out and I am glad to say that my hair has now fully grown back..including my facial hair. I haven't noticed any hair fallng out for well over a year now.
