My Name is Mary. My grandson, age 12, has been struggling with this illness for about 3 months. he is rapidly losing more hair and feels very bad now, wearing a hat at all times. he is a very bright sensitive boy. He just started 7th grade and I know that can be a difficult time for anyone. His parents are wonderful. he is being treated by a Dr., but I don't know what I can do or say to make him comfortable. He never removes his hat in front of me and his parents have asked me not to say anything about it. His parents are supportive of him at home. My son has offered to shave his head and my grandsons, so he doesn't feel alone. He is wearing his remaining hair long to cover the bald spots. I want to be supportive, but i'm not sure how. I would shave my head too, if it helped. I also worry about his health. I understand this is an immune disorder. I need to learn more and would like to hear how others have helped their kids cope and or recover from alopecia.
