Got my first spot 8 months ago at the back of my head. It’s my only spot I think. But today in the shower I noticed that my thigh had a rectangular section of hair that was shorter then the rest. This area is exactly where my phone would be if I were wearing pants. So I’m wondering if that could friction and rubbing off my pants could cause the hairs in that area to become shorter then the rest.

My question is let’s say worst case that the shorter hairs on my thigh indicate alopecia, what kind of alopecia do I have? Is it still areata? Does this mean I will get AU since it went from my scalp to my body? Or has anyone had areata involving both body and scalp without going to full blown AU?

Hey, I'm new on this forum, so sorry if I'm recrudeseing this theme, but am I the only one believing that it's just better to have absolutely no hairs then to have a few creepy bald areas on head? I have the AA for 9 or 10 years right now and I hate myself. I would really rather like to have AT than AA because the AT looks just much more better.

I was diagnosed with AA around two months ago and have lost over 50% of my hair. Emotions aside, I have a real tough question.

How do I know if the stubble all over my bald spots are new hair growth or just exclamation point hairs?

I attached a picture. They seem to make my head kinda feel a little fuzzy and feel as if I just shaved my legs. There are kinda pointy and black, also!

All comments appreciated. :)
P.S. This website has helped me tremendously.

I have had AA since I was 18. You can read my whole story here

I was walking my daughter to school one day and I ran into a friend who told me about her friend who sells fancy hair products. She shared a story about someone else with AA who had major hair regrowth using the products. I was skeptical. BUT. I decided to give it a try since there is a 30 day money back guarantee.

Now, I am a total believer and I don't use anything else on my hair. I still have AA. My hair still falls out in little round patches. But I have not had THIS much hair since I was in high school. I'm 45 years old! If you want to know more, please message me or email me! Below are my before and after pics. The products are all natural. I am thinking about trying them on my synthetic wigs and my human hair pieces just to see how they look. Has anyone else tried Monat??

Hello all, first time poster. I am curious if anyone else has had issues with progressive hearing loss and AA.
Hello all, first time poster. I am curious if anyone else has had issues with progressive hearing loss and AA. I have read a lot of posts and some doctors state that the type of cells in the hair follicles and the hair in your inner ear (cilia or stereocilia) are completely different so it is not possible. BUT I have also read from some people on here that they experience ringing in the ears (tinnitus). I am just curious if any of those people have also got a hearing check and if they have been diagnosed with a loss of hearing; mainly on the high frequency. I have come across a few scientific studies published that have showed a correlation but it seems this theory is not widely accepted in the medical fields.

A little background: I have AAP. Been dealing with my condition for over 30yrs. I had a full head of hair until I was 4yo then I lost it all at once, in a period of a couple months. I had AT for the next 3-4yrs then my hair started to come back but I have always had AAP since. I have been shaving my head since I was 20yo to cope. Now at 35yo seems like it is getting worse...lost one of my eyebrows recently. When I was around 17yo I started to notice ringing in my ears. By 22yo I went to an audiologist and found that I had some significant hearing loss for my age, in the high frequencies. They wanted me to see an ENT, I went to one and they did an MRI and couldn't find anything wrong with the auditory nerve. Over the next 12-13yrs my hearing has gotten worse (based on multiple hearing tests throughout that timeframe.)

Thanks in advance for your input!!

Yesterday in a Costco parking lot I met my first fellow Xeljanzer (my made-up term) IN PERSON! I saw this pretty bald girl, ran up to her and said "Hey sister" and gave her a hug. We started talking and she told me she has been on Xeljanz for 8 months, and she got it from a local dermatologist, who recommended it to her. She has most of her eyebrows back, but said her hair growth has been erratic and uneven so she purposely still shaves her head. We exchanged phone numbers and plan to keep in…

It made me wonder if there are any other Xeljanzers, or those that want to get on it, in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live? Alternatively, some of you might want to get together with others in person who live near you. It's one thing to see pictures of hair regrowth, but seeing it first-hand is even better!
MALVERN, Pa., Nov. 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals Corporation (Nasdaq:TLOG) today announced that it has an open U.S. Investigational New Drug application in support of a Phase 2 clinical trial of suberohydroxamic acid (4-methoxycarbonyl) phenyl ester (SHAPE) in approximately forty patients with alopecia areata.

SHAPE is a novel HDAC inhibitor being developed for topical treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, or CTCL, and is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial. SHAPE is designed to maximize HDAC inhibition locally in the skin with limited systemic exposure.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Alopecia areata occurs in males and females of all ages, but onset often occurs in childhood. Over 6.6 million people in the United States have or will develop alopecia areata at some point in their lives. FDA has identified alopecia areata to be one of the few disease states to be developed under the Patient-Focused Drug Development Initiative based upon multiple criteria including disease severity and unmet medical needs.

"We are excited to advance SHAPE into a second indication and another Phase 2 trial," said J. Kevin Buchi, President and Chief Executive Officer of TetraLogic. "A topical therapy which minimizes systemic exposure could provide an attractive new treatment option to the millions of alopecia areata sufferers."

About SHAPE

SHAPE is an HDAC inhibitor being developed for topical use for the treatment of CTCL, and alopecia areata. SHAPE is a novel therapeutic designed to maximize HDAC inhibition locally in the skin with limited systemic exposure. As a result, SHAPE has characteristics that could allow it to be used topically over large body surface areas with minimal systemic absorption. SHAPE's composition of matter patent in the U.S. extends until at least 2028; in addition, SHAPE has been granted U.S. orphan drug designation for CTCL. TetraLogic owns worldwide development and commercialization rights to SHAPE for all indications.

About TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals Corporation

TetraLogic is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing novel small molecule therapeutics in oncology and infectious diseases. TetraLogic has two clinical-stage product candidates in development: birinapant and SHAPE. Birinapant is currently being tested in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and solid tumors. SHAPE is currently being tested in a Phase 2 clinical trial for early-stage Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma (CTCL).
