Hi all.
Hi all.
Gosh I don't even know where to start. Crying won't do anything so I may as well just start with the facts.
29, AA, currently experiencing my 3rd Aaa outbreak... My first was in 2009; patches in the back & sides. 2011 small patches in the front, 2014 shedding mostly from my fringe, crown @ receding from my temple area.
I've been emotional, but pragmatic.
I've created a spreadsheet of my bloodwork over the last 7 years. Interestly I can find correlation between incredibly low Vit D & B12 and my AA outbreaks.
That said, like many my AA seems to have no other visable triggers (eg: diet, emotional, medication, diet). Stress is part of my life (and my job) but again, there has been no correlation recently.

I'm not coping so well.
I'm doing the typical stuff...tears in the shower when my hair is all over the walls.
...I'm avoiding washing my hair purely because of the trauma of then having to "confront it". I'm so sick of my hair being...everywhere.

I'm taking vitamin; trying hair loss tonics, B12 injections, high dosage oral Vit D.
Booked in for cortisone treatment (injections) again; though this was only effective during my first bout, when I was living in the USA. It appears in Australia the FBA don't allow such high/strong cortisone doses.

I'm trying to change my diet; I'm vegetarian (Always have been. Typically healthy diet). But I've read about gluten & diary effects of hairloss.

Oh & I'm changing my oral contraceptive as i e read research that suggests Levongestual has common side effects of hair loss.

So. That's a tiny part of me.
I'm fluctuating between sinking & drowning. In reality, as logical as I am. As pragmatic as I'm being... I'm not the first to be on this journey. I'm not unique in my experience. But my hair keeps alling out; and being anything but vain seems too much to ask at the moment.
Hi all

Just wondering if Vit D actually works for anybody?

I worked in Kenya for 3 years and my hair grew back - I spent a huge amount of time in the sun, since then I have moved to work in Bangkok where although it is sunny, I spend a lot more of my time inside and don't actually get a lot of sun. My hair has started falling out again which is a major bummer....I have 2 medium sized patches.

So does vitamin D work? Many people talk about their shedding cycles - losing their hair in the winter, so this would tie in with the sun theory.

In addition to this, talking to people in Mombasa they have never heard of alopecia. I honestly can't say I've ever seen someone with alopecia in the tropics - wig or no wig, I'm pretty good at spotting it after having it since I was 9 (now 32). When I go back to the UK I see so many people with patches of hair missing or no hair, and wearing scarves and wigs. Could it actually be linked to Vitamin D? Or is that a high oversimplification?

Anybody with experience with taking Vitamin D would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)
