Hi, I have worn wigs since 2009.... I have had real hair wigs & some synthetic wigs & some fiberfusion wigs? I find that real hair wigs last longer and stay nicer longer (no crunchy end feeling) . I am always worried people can tell I am bald & it is a wig.......... I am disappointed with the latest ones , half & half, I bought 3 of the same style regular 400$ each for $218 so I got 3, well 2 mths in and 2 of em are wrecked......I take them off when I get home and wear an old wig. I am very careful with them. SO be careful when you buy fiberfusion ones that they say can handle heat. AS I Never applied any heat to them it was only sun exposure that cooked them. well let me know what your take on wigs are . Thank you . signed frustrated and bummed out. :) but still smiling :)

I have both synthetic & HH. I love the versatility of HH, being able to change your style. But I also like the ease of synthetics, just being able to put them on and go. Although my synthetics are only lasting me about 2 months...maybe I am doing something wrong?

Wow. 2 months? That seems too short a time. I have 2 synthetic wigs (I LOVE them!) and both have been going strong since January. Since I alternate them, I guess that gives them 4 months each. I don't use much styling product and wash them sparingly and they still look new. They are short...seems like people with shorter wigs get more life from them. They each cost about 115 dollars and that seems on the low cost side, at least to me from my research and I did get them from a wonderful salon, not a catalogue or on-line. I did purchase a "sleep-wig" from TWC which is like a sleep cap with funky curls.

I must be doing something wrong. I do wear mine daily. No products. I try to shampoo only once a month maybe two. It is hsoulder length and is lookimg ratty on thhe ends. It is the gabor brand.

I've had alopecia for over 40 years, so I'm pretty well acquainted with hair replacement options. When I worked on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, I wore the expensive prostheses and was happy with them. Now that I live in the country and work from home, I don't need the expensive hair pieces. I have been extremely satisfied lately with the least expensive Indian remy processed hair sewn into a custom full french lace cap by a Chinese vendor. I like the versatility of these units. They have incredibly realistic hairlines, even in the back, and look great in updos. Once you perfect your measurements, the caps fit so well that only a small amount of glue or tape is required to keep them in place. The last custom unit I ordered was 18" and cost only $175, inclusive of the $35 UPS shipping. I received it five weeks after placing my order online, and I couldn't be happier with it. With proper care (washing, light knot sealing, conditioning, daily oiling and brushing), these units can look great for at least six months, longer depending on how careful you are. My units do not knot up any more than hair growing out of someone's head would knot up. I find the Indian hair in silky straight texture to be very soft and most similar to European texture. These units are cheaper, cooler, and much more natural looking than synthetics and because the caps are custom sized, they are much more comfortable. As much as I would like to buy American, I will continue to purchase from China and put the money I save into my ROTH IRA and extra mortgage payments. ;)

Lori, what is knot sealing? Is this something that you have done or do yourself? I've haven't heard of it.

Knot sealer is like a hairspray that you spray on the inside of full lace caps. It doesn't make the wig cap stiff, but it does put a light coat over the knots where the hair has been hand knotted into the cap. This protects the knots from scalp oils and adhesives/tapes that over time can loosen the knots and cause the wig to shed. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to seal the knots. I have some units that I never sealed and they may have shed a little bit as they got older, but not to the point that they have become unwearable. You can get knot sealer on Amazon:

Lori, can you send me the vendor that you buy from? I need to order another wig very soon and would like to buy an inexpensive unit. I am saving for a freedom from folea :)

Hi RayG

I think an inexpensive hairpiece is a good option for an interim hairpiece and it sounds like Lori has found something that works very well for her.

When I read your post I realised that there is some real confusion in market over wig companies and wig types.

A Freedom Wig is a Custom made Vacuum hairpiece, using the latest technology around implantation, fitting, cap type qualities (vapour permeability/breathability). The hair used in this type of wig is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair. They are distributed throughout the world using Independent Agents (most wear the product). It is fully manufactured in New Zealand and for me is a quality product beyond compare ( I am biased as my daughter wears this type of hairpiece and I help people in New Zealand with their needs around this hairpiece). If you want to understand this type of wig please contact one of your local Independent Agents, or pop into my page and message me with any information you need. A freedom wig is a specialised Wig made for those with alopecia areata, totalis and universalis (and other forms of extreme long term hairloss).

Follea is a distribution company who manufactures their wigs in China. From the information I have. They make a variety of net based wigs, hand tied, wefted wigs, which can be customised, using from their advertising 'lightly processed' hair, for the fashion market; some have silicone strips attached so gluing and taping is not needed. They do not sell Freedom Wigs or a product similar to a Vacuum wig.

Just to help totally different wigs totally different companies :)

Rosy

Hi Rose

Thank you for explain this so well to RayG, I was just thinking, how can I explain the difference to her and poof, you had.

RayG,I have suffered from AU since 1997, so I have been down every route of the wig picking. I have both a Freedom piece and a Gripper. I, by far, prefer the Freedom piece. I feel it is worth every penny I spent and I saved for awhile. I am now in the process of saving for another one. I have worn my Gripper since May and it is starting to look worn. I only wear my wigs to work and when we go out, the rest of the time I wear a hat as I live on a farm. I am actually considering going to my stylist and getting her to cut imy Gripper shorter to see if that helps. I recently sent my Freedom piece for repairs. It didn't need it, it was just something recommended by the company I purchased it from prior to finding my Freedom consultant. It's just my opinion, but I love my Freedom piece.

Hi what is the company called you order from? I would like to chekc it out ty so much :)

Sent you a friend request...will send you the vendor name in a private message. I don't want to appear as though I'm giving anyone "free" advertising on this site. Thanks!

I would love the vender name also.
