My toddler daughter (age 3) is experiencing Alopecia aeata, it started about 7-8 months back after a dose of antibiotics for her cold. Pediatrician and Dermatologists we saw in DC Metro area simply prescribed the topical liquid ointment without trying to address the root cause. We went to Homeopath in India. It got aggravated after we tried Homeopathy medicine couple of months back. Not sure whether it was medicine or the Auto immune disorder deciding take that form. Then we seeked assistance from a Naturopath in DC to identify the root cause. With the naturopath’s valuable advice we did the Cyrex tests (array 2, array 3 and array 4). Some Array 3 test results have shown she is allergic to gluten. Naturopath advised cutting off gluten and added few supplements (Iron, Vitamin D, Thyroforce) from Lab corp test results which indicated these deficiencies.
I wanted to check whether following numbers have any direct/indirect relationship to the alopecia aerata condition she is suffering.

Wheat IgG : Out of Range: 2.03 , Reference (0.3 – 1.5)
Wheat Germ Agglutinin IgG: Out of range: 1.52, Ref: (04 -1.3)
Native & Deamediated Giladin 33 IgG, Out of range: 2.80, Ref (0.2-1.2)
Omega Giladin 17-mer IgG: Out of range: 1.91, Ref (0.2 – 1.2)

Please note only IgG are out of range where as IgA are not.

Also other tests of diary and egg have come negative and cross food gluten tests also have come negative, although we have put her on goat milk. We have seen some improvements after shifting her to goat’s milk in terms of her energy level.

Since she is 3 and vegetarian, not sure what other changes might help. If you can think of any, please let me know.

Also, its 3rd week she is on GF diet and on supplement, we have not seen any hair regrowth yet although falling has stopped. Anyone with experience, please let me know when to expect some hair growth (want to ensure at least we are heading in the right direction).

Thanks for your time and appreciate any help.

Thanks

My daughter developed AA at 11 months old. This was around the time we transitioned from formula and rice cereal to a general diet. She had rather rapid hair loss over the next three months, though she was developing regrowth in her earlier patches. We then started a gluten free diet. Within two weeks we noticed a significant change in her bowels: firm, not diarrhea-like, and only 2/day instead of 4-6/day. She continued to lose more hair for the next few months and then it stopped. She has not lost hair in over a month. I was elated, and of course convinced there was a connection between her alopecia and gluten. Over the weekend (friday night) she was unintentionally given gluten (wheat starch in sweet potatoe fries). She seemed fine Saturday. Sunday morning she had a large, loose bowel movement (as before). Sunday night when I was bathing her I noticed a hair in the bathtub......then several hairs in her comb when combing her hair afterward. I don't know if there is a connection with her ingesting the gluten? Would it effect her hair that quickly? Any thoughts on how long it takes to recover from an accidental ingestion? I would appreciate any input.

I am curious ...any of you who have experienced dramatic hair regrowth ... did you have alopecia Universalis?

I have had AU for ten years
But my entire life, I have exercised and eaten healthily. There have been times when I have been gluten free, grain free, vegan , etc I try different regimes. I mostly still eat gluten free. I am still AU.

I would like to hear from those with AU who have had regrowth

Merci.

6. Pour into loaf tin or muffin cases and bake for 1-1 ½ hours for the loaf, or 25 minutes for the muffins, until golden on top and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
7. Remove loaf from tin and cool on a wire rack. Cool the muffins in their cases on a rack. Results from a Gluten-Free Diet?tag:alopeciaworld.com,2010-02-28:2022678:Topic:4117182010-02-28T00:23:40.707Zkarmahttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/karma

Hello Everyone,

I have been gluten free since May 2009. Before the GF diet my scalp was completely smooth. Within a few months I noticed vellus hair growth across my entire scalp. Wearing a freedom wig hair piece requires a smooth scalp, my hair growth was and is interfering with the suction of my piece requiring me to shave my head. When the growth of the vellus hair first began I had to shave my head about once a week for adequate suction of my hairpiece. After 7 months of being Gluten Free I have began to see patches of pigment hairs. After 9 months I still continue to see more pigment patches appearing very slowly (aprox. 10% of pigment hairs on entire scalp but 100% visible vellus or "peach fuzz" can be seen if I let my hair grow for 1 week). I now have to shave my head every other day for my vacuum suction piece. Gluten is the only food I have eliminated from my diet. After reading information from the internet, it is to my understanding that if Gluten is the probable cause to my alopecia totalis it could take a year or more for hair growth. I am not discouraged but wondering what everyone else who is doing a gluten free diet is getting for results? I have had "peach fuzz" for around 4 month. Has anyone else experienced this?
