I joined because I watched my wife develop alopecia in 1991, during a period of great personal crisis for her. Since then she has shown incredible courage and resilience while coming to terms with what it means to have alopecia, and during this time I have not always been as supportive as I could have due mainly to my lack of understanding about the emotional effects caused by having alopecia. It did not affect my feelings for her and I did not feel any loss of love for her, it was my inability to express my love and feelings toward her in an empathetic way which caused me the greatest concern. Since joining Alopecia World and reading the comments, blogs and experience of members I have been able to come to a better understanding, though I can never fully comprehend what you are all feeling, I do feel I am better informed due to the courage shown by members to share there experiences on this site. I thank ever member for giving me this opportunity to share a part of each of your experiences. John

I joined because my mom has had Alopecia almost all of my life. She developed it when she was pregnant with my little brother, almost 18 years ago. So I am here for her.

i just did it because i just have bad genes/self image whatever and noticed my hair getting er- different over these last few years and it really threw me off at first, considering how shy i already am & the problems thats caused. I feel better just coming here sometimes and looking at pictures and reading posts by other people who might also know the stress of being different...i dunno, its hard to talk about

I joined because I did suffer hair loss and know how it can effect your life. My hair have since grown back but quality is poor and is is 70% gray. Very difficult to take care of and maintain, so I wear lace wigs. No more coloring three to four weeks and perm every six to eight weeks. I also work with alopecia clients as I provide lice wigs and hair prophetesses for anyone suffering from hair loss. I can also answer questions about hair products from weaving to custom made prosthices, so please feel free to ask me questions if you would like.

Hi,
I joined because my sister suffers from Alopecia and it hurts me to see her so disappointed with her hair loss. The dermatologist is not sure what is causing it, but she has a prescription that she takes and she gets the shots also. She just recently started letting me sew in a hair weave and she stopped getting chemicals, and sitting under a hair dryer which irritated her scalp. I have noticed that the hair is coming back slowly on the sides.
