<p>Hi Ladies,</p>
<p>I am new to the Alopecia World site and I have a couple of questions. I started shaving my head a couple of months of ago. I shave twice a week. How often do you shave? I like the very clean look and lately I've been feeling like I should shave at least every 2 days. Also I put oils on my scalp - coconut oil, cocoa butter spray and a mixture of other oils. I like the very clean look and lately I've been feeling like I should shave at least every 2 days. Also I put oils on my scalp - coconut oil, cocoa butter spray and a mixture of other oils. I use a shampoo and conditioner that have aloe in them. Do you have any tips on maintaining your scalp? Since I've been using the oils my scalp looks healthier and feels better too. I also put makeup on my scalp sometimes - foundation and powder. I've loved putting on makeup since I was young and when I used it on my scalp I loved the way it looked.</p>
<p>Thanks in advance for any advice.</p> Letting our light shinetag:alopeciaworld.com,2011-10-05:2022678:Topic:8251452011-10-05T18:26:30.915ZPathttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Pat13

Let your heads shine ladies! Why Do YOU Shave Your Head?tag:alopeciaworld.com,2010-09-10:2022678:Topic:4872402010-09-10T13:49:58.357ZPathttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Pat13
As many of you know, I am writing a book titled <u>Boldly Bald Women</u>. I have come to a place where I would like input from those women who have shaved their heads and choose to go bare headed (weather permitting). I have gone through the downsides of living a boldly bald lifestyle. The section I am writing now asks the question:<br />
<br />
<b>"So why, if there is cruelty towards and discrimination against women daring to go bald in public, <i>why</i> would anyone in their right mind expose themselves…</b>

<br />
<b>"So why, if there is cruelty towards and discrimination against women daring to go bald in public, <i>why</i> would anyone in their right mind expose themselves to the emotional discomfort and societal intolerance of female baldness? Now there’s a sixty four thousand dollar question for you."</b><br />
<br />
Some of you, who have already participated with this project via a questionnaire have sent me your reasons. This group has grown recently and if any of you are willing, I'd love to have you share. Those of us shaving our heads and living boldly bald are pioneers for the women who are less comfortable and more leery of consequences. I believe we can help those who follow to feel more free to explore options by sharing our own stories. There is no financial compensation for sharing, but there is the satisfaction of knowing you are using your difference for the good of your sisters.<br />
<br />
<br />
Thank you for your willingness to shine!<br />

Pam Bought my first wig last night...tag:alopeciaworld.com,2010-03-12:2022678:Topic:4159312010-03-12T15:45:02.475ZPathttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Pat13
I'm a bit nervous...I bought my first wig last night (actually my mother in law bought it for me). Now it's time to prepare for the next step - deciding if I am going to shave my head or just cut my hair shorter. I have too much hair to wear under the wig, so I am thinking about just cutting it chin-length in hopes of when the patches start growing back I can revert back to my natural hair sooner. I have too much hair to wear under the wig, so I am thinking about just cutting it chin-length in hopes of when the patches start growing back I can revert back to my natural hair sooner. The thing is, I have a lot of bald spots. I can cover them with my other hair by pulling it up in a barette and pinning some hair over the spot by my bangs. Another part of me is wanting to just take the plunge and shave it off. After reading through many posts and discussions, I know not to shave unless I am 100% sure. The thing is, I WANT to be sure, but I'm not. I guess I'll cut it short and see how it looks and then go from there. Baby steps. I've only had alopecia for 6 weeks and it has progressed quickly. 6 weeks since I found my first small spot that is now the size of a baseball and I have 4 more of those to match not to mention the numerous smaller spots. This has been a HUGE adjustment, but I think I am doing okay. Love this site and so glad I found all you fine people. it sure does help to talk to others who have gone through it, are going through it and became so much stronger because of it. I'd love to hear your experiences of when you were at this point. Does anyone find that their heads are harder to shave in the winter?tag:alopeciaworld.com,2009-11-30:2022678:Topic:3861182009-11-30T06:12:04.192ZPathttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Pat13
I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that it has become harder and harder to shave. My "stubble" seems to be thicker and my scalp is really irriatated when I am finished shaving. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a more comfortable shave?

I laughingly refer to myself as Velcro Woman, the superhero, because I still have "unsightly shaver stubble." I put that in quotes because it sounds like an ad from the 1970s. Anyway, I have a hard time shaving closely. I tried Headshave, Venus and my husband's Gilette. Still stubble. Any ideas how to get a smooth top? This is really silly, but has anyone tried waxing or a product like Nair (if that's still produced these days)?<br />

Meanwhile, as I posted another place, I'm thinking of making felt Colorforms and putting the weather on my head each day like Miss Nancy did in Romper Room.
