    Hi,

I'm new to this website. I was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, however I presently reside in Jersey City, New Jersey, which is no more than 30 minutes from Manhattan. I will always be what God created me, a New Yorker through and through. There really is no town like "the Big Apple." Have a wondeful week.

Hey all. I'm an Indiana boy by birth and blood, but I've been living in New York since August of 2001. Currently I'm in Astoria, Queens.
  • JeffreySF

    Hey Tom,
Is that where Ugly Betty Lives too?

    Jeffrey
  • Tom Patterson

Same borough, different neighborhood. I think. I've never actually seen the show as I have an irrational grudge against any program that films in New York, but won't cast me.

    Actually, that's a lie. I watch 30 Rock and the L&O's.
  • Jocelyn

happy new year new yorkers :)
  • Tom Patterson

    Happy 2010 indeed!

heads up .. support meeting January 11th at the Weill Cornell Medical at 7:30
  • Karen Froehner

Hi All! I am just going back online. I've been off since September. I became over committed and not doing myself justice by it. I am slowly stepping out again. I was wondering if anyone is attending the Bald Girls Do Lunch affair on Feb 10th. It would be grand to be able to meet one another from the NYCity area. I went to her last gig at the Mark Garrison Salon. It was a fab time with lots of wonderful prizes and good food.

Anyway, I hope to meet some of you down there. Blessings, Karen
  • Gale Moorman

Hi, Karen, I do intend to attend the Bald Girls Do Lunch Affair on Feb. 10th. Had alopecia since 10yrs old. Went from quarter patch to sides of head back to quarter patches. Had married when I had quarter patches and had one son. When I had my twin sons, shortly after started loosing hair until now bald. Attended a few NAAF meetings but feel strongly for my Alopecians that they can learn to cope and have a resourceful life with this disorder. Thinking of organizing a motivational next month. The event will be 2 hours with one hour of motivational, inspirational talk and one hour of comments/questions from the attendees. Refreshments & snack will be provided at a nominal fee.
  • Karen Froehner

    Hi Gale,
    When, where and how much?
    Karen
  • Jocelyn

I'm going February 10th, bringing along mom and the bf.
  • Karen Froehner

Great! I hope to meet you there!

Hey NYC friends! Does anyone know of a good doctor that possibly specializes in autoimmune disorders and is covered by GHI in the NYC area?
  • Pat Latina

Although I live in CT, I was born and raised in NYC. Love that City!! Hope you all are going to the BGDL on April 14th, I'll be there.
  • Pat Latina

Does anyone know of a good tatoo specialist for eyebrows? I've been thinking about it lately.
  • Gale Moorman

Ayana, welcome to alopecia world, Alopecian in NYC. Are you from the NYC area?

    Hey all,
wonder if any of you have had to deal with this.
I am just starting to grow my hair back, which is good news, it's patchy and uneven but whatever, right?
Anyway, I usually wear a wig, and I have a friend who is constantly trying to get me to go to the beach with her. When I go on vacation with my folks it isn't a big deal I will ditch the wig and wear a headwrap, but I really don't feel comfortable doing this around my friend and her husband. I am not entirely sure why. It just makes my stomach queasy. When my hair started falling out all over when i started dental school, all she wanted to do was talk about it and tell me it wasn't that bad, and that things could be worse. Then she would tell me about her friend whose mother died or something.
THEN, I will never forget this, she called me up to cry about a BAD HAIRCUT, and how she didn't go to work because it looked to bad and she was crying on the phone to me about it. I couldn't believe it. Here I was going BALD, un certain, stressed out, depressed about it, and that is the phone call I get.
This was last year, so I kind of feel like I should be over it, but I guess I am not. And now she wants to go to the beach, and I don't really feel like her asking me a bunch of questions about it when I don't feel like she has any respect for what this condition can do to people. Plus, she loves to talk about other people's drama and I really don't feel like being the one she talks about. She is one of my closest friends, don't get me wrong, I just haven't quite learned how to deal with her and this issue.
I really DO want to go to the beach, but the thought of trying to deal with the hair thing out there with her is un-nerving. Anyone have any ideas? Or any similar experiences? How did you deal with it?
    Thanks!

Hi everyone! I had Alopecia Areata a few years ago, with bare patches around my head. With medical treatment, they grew back. My hair is baby-fine and thin now. But I know how scary it is to lose your hair suddenly for no reason.

    Hi All,

Had a great time at the last “topless” party and throwing another one on November 18th at my apartment in Hoboken, NJ. I know it’s “NJ” but I’m only 15 minutes from NYC ☺

I just created this under “events” on Alopecia World. Please take a look and let me know if you can attend:

    http://www.alopeciaworld.com/events/topless-party-come-let-your-hai...

Also, I am now working for Follea that is the worlds leading added hair manufacture, specializing in high-end, comfortable and secure wigs and topettes, including the Gripper! I am the East Coast rep and have our entire collection on display at my home office in Hoboken if you are interested in trying them on and seeing the quality of our hair. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss how our products would benefit you personally.

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to seeing some of you at my cocktail party!
