My name is Faheemah. As a child, I had really long hair that I was really proud of and that many people used to compliment me on. Suddenly, I begin to lose patches of hair that grew back during 1st grade. In eighth grade, I begin to lose hair again, but the lost was worse than before and in ninth grade I was diagnosed with Alopecia. It was hard for me, because my hair was my everything, but I grew to realize that it's just hair and there are many people out there like me. It was hard for me to explain to people, but many of my close friends and family showed me support. I'm engaged to a man who loves me for who I am and has shaved me head on a few occasions.
Faheemah, it is for that exact reason why Alopecia World is so important, it amazes me how many people actually have never meant another person with alopecia. I guess Alopecia World must be a real big realization that you are NOT alone.
Hi Faheemah! Thanks for requesting me as a friend! Welcome to Alopecia World. I read your 'about me' and it was very touching. I see as is with most people with alopecia, once it is accepted it is then embraced. I think thats a very good message. Please keep in touch:)
They changed the program around a bit last year, but here is the last years program for reference. This year the conference June 19-22 and you can get more info on www.naaf.org.
The mohawk thing isn't a bad idea at all! haha, i love havin one. But like you i've really only heard of people that have it. I met one girl once for like 10 minutes who had it, but she had a full head of hair, so it wasn't the same. So this is definitely awesome to have all these people to talk to that have it. Thats part of why im looking forward to conference so much. Are you going?
If you do, hopefully maybe we can all meet. I was speaking to rj the other day of come up with some kind of way that we can all met while we are there and really introduce ourselves. We'll let you know if we come up wth something.
That would be really cool if you could go, but of course, school is important! I'm definitely excited about going, & this will be my first time so i can't wait. I've only talked to one woman who had it, but she had a full head of hair so it wasn't the same...so this will be great. Have you ever been to one before?
Oh ok! Well I'm glad you heard about it, because everything i've heard is that it is SO wonderful. I'm looking so forward to going because I've heard so much positive feedback. And just the thought of being surrounded by fellow alopecians is wonderful.
