I am a 36 year old wife and mother that was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata on 2/14/2008. I am still trying to learn how to cope with this life change. I have lost about 85% of my hair since the first of February and basically we have come up with that all this started because of stress...I would have not gotten this far without the strength of my faith and family. I am hoping to be able to get even more support from others in the same situation that I am in.
Hi! My name is Barb and I'm a new member here as well -- although I have been living with alopecia longer than you. I lost my hair eight years ago and am AU today. It's a frightening thing, seeing your hair disappear and wondering what will happen next. I remember when it was happening to me I couldn't believe there wasn't a cure and I definitely couldn't understand why doctors didn't seem to know what to tell me ... or they would suggest things that didn't work! Your faith and your family are the ones who will help you most but I hope you'll find tons of support here as well! Welcome!!
Hi Carri, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us. Cheryl, co- founder
Yes, I absolutely relate to everything you told me about how you are feeling! When this happened to me, my life fell completely apart. I thought I just couldn't endure the horror show that my life had become. It does get better, it really does! Time is what has helped me the most. But learning how to cope and talking about it with others who have been there and felt the same way I felt was a huge help to me. This website you have found will be very helpful in that respect. If you ever want to email me personally, especially when you just need to vent, please don't hesitate to do so. I am at bthoen2684@aol.com and can be IM-ed at Yahoo. I really want to be there for you and to help you in any way I can to get through this!
