Two weeks ago, I was informed about Alopecia World, so hesitant I decided that I needed to take this step and be surrounded by great supporters, motivators, and inspirational individuals.
Life is a challenge, as millions of people every day discover something about themselves they never anticipated. My day of discovery took place two months ago when my hair began to fall out, which I thought was a real indicator that I needed some balance in my life. Having experienced the same symptoms a year ago I figured it was that “Stressful time of year again”, I enrolled in more yoga classes, detox and finally nothing changed. After seeing a Dermatologist and three additional spots I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata.
I have a beautiful and supportive family with six gorgeous sisters and loving nieces and nephews. Since my diagnosis my Mother has shown great support. However, it's been difficult to understand or comprehend my situation. ( Will it progress stay the same, grow back, do treatment, don't do treatment, homeopathy)
Everyone recognizes that beauty is important except often they do not see themselves as attractive because their uniqueness and imperfections have not been reflected back to them. I' am struggling to understand my inner beauty, which has been lost during these last few months...
Struggling to heal myself, I went for cortisone injections to stimulate hair growth..When in the end, I was hurting myself emotionally... Soon I realised that beauty was intended to be about pleasure not pain..
The quaint old fashioned notion “Pain is Beauty, Beauty is Pain”, belongs to an era when beauty was simply based on physical attributes and not the inner beauty of an individual.
Everyone who has joined this website are beautiful, I know because I've read your stories, your struggles and most importantly I see it in your eyes and I feel it in your souls. In the end, our struggles and challenges are a mystery of beauty within ourselves... You've learned to deal with your struggles and assist others in the best of times.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in my eyes nothing is sexier then a confident ALOPECIAN!!!!
When you have a moment of sadness...How do you achieve the true beauty that comes from the inside?
Wow, what a wonderful story. I loved what you wrote.
Welcome to Alopecia World -- indeed, there are many beautiful people here.
As far as the"moment of sadness" you mention -- I think that I can safely say that time will take care of the sadness. You might want to read my book, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing," which has a lot of stories of different women and their journeys. It's a fun read, too. Check in out on my page. In the meantime, live from the inside out. By focusing on what is inside, not what is outside, including what other people think -- that's where the happiness lies.
I'm so glad you're here! Welcome...

Hi Bri,
I can relate to your feelings. I am not going to say that it's easy because it is not. However, I can say that after 15 yrs of aleopecia universalis it does get easier. There are ups and downs like in all areas of life, but it is great to look back to your life and think "wow, look how far I've come and how much I have grown as a person". That is a truly rewarding feeling. As well, I believe there's always room for more growth and we each must take our lives in steps towards the future.
It sounds like you're well on your way. Good job!

Hi Bri, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us. Cheryl, co-founder
Hey girlfriend, it's really easy to get my book. Yes, you can order it from your local bookstore, but the easiest thing is to go online, www.Amazon.com, or click the link at the bottom of my page.
When you get it, let me know! I would love to find out how you like it. Hugs!
Hi Bri,
I am assuming that your bf is coming out to Alberta for an employment opportunity. I'd totally love to get together if you come to Alberta. I agree 100% about the comfort of having someone to speak to. Count me in forsure! Where in Alberta is he moving to?
Also I feel so liberated having written that blog about how uncertain I feel and to have so many people read it and comment and share....wow, all I can say is I am very happy that I found this website.
