46 year old mother of 4. I have had alopecia since I was 6 or 7 years old. At first it only came out in small patches, and then in 1995 it just got so bad I shaved my head and moved on with my life. I am a nurse and I have tried everything to help restore my hair. I wear a wig out in public, but at home I am free as a bird. I am at peace with my head now, but it use to be really hard. I hope that if anyone wants to talk about their struggles or accomplishments this site will be the place for that
Hi Tracy!
Gee..that's really brave that you shaved your head! Sometimes i think it would almost be easier to shave my head. My alopecia is acting up again right now. I still have quite a bit of hair, but It's so frusterating waiting for it to stop coming out. I can't wear my hair any other way than in a braid because it just falls all over me. I think that the worst part is watching my hair come out. I haven't brushed my own hair in 3 weeks hehe. I get my friends and my sisters to do it because i just can't stand to see all that hair. I definitely don't want to regret shaving my head if i do end up doing it, but eurgh the hair just falls for so long!! It's grueling. But i really try not to let it bring my spirit down. Anyways i guess i just told you my whole story...haha i hope you don't mind. You seem very nice and i just felt that i could relate to your story. So...thanks a lot for listening! Talk to you soon.

Hi Tracy, I shaved my head also. I didn't have enuf hair to matter. I wear a wig in public, but not at home. I don't do anything to try to restore my hair. I'm leary of drugs and chemicals, but if something seemed safe and possible, I would try it.
