Hi Susy, my name is Cindy and my daughter Samantha is 6.5. She is in first grade. She lost all of hair shortly after she began Kindergarten and has been wearing a wig since Dec. She loves her wigs and is starting to have regrowth. If your daughter chooses not to wear a head covering at school I do suggest having a talk with her class about Alopeica and maybe sending a letter home to the parents. You maybe surprised to find that others are familiar with Alopecia and no someone else with it. We have recently had this experience. As long as you keep giving Jasmine love and support she will get through this. I suggest finding some outside activities at school that she enjoys and have her develop her skills. It will be a great confidence booster. There are quite a few moms on here with kids Jasmines age. I am sure you find some good advice...Cindy

Hi Jasmine! Yes, I just realized you are in Vancouver! Right next door to me.
Of course, we should meet. Do you come to Portland very much?
    LeslieAnn
  • LeslieAnn Butler

Okay, why don't you give me some ideas and we'll go from there.
Do you wear wigs? I'm asking because there is a wonderful place in Portland called Brenda Kay Hair Specialties that has some fabulous products. You might want to go there and see what Brenda has to offer. I could meet you there.

How about if you come to the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery fall art show on October 17? It's a casual reception with some food and wine and Jasmine could see some of my artwork, too. It's on the corner of SW 12th & Jefferson. The show goes from 5- 8. Let me know if you're interested and I'll make sure I'm there!

  • LeslieAnn Butler

    Hi Jasmine and "Mom"!
I will be at the art show on the 17th between 5 and 6:30 or 7 -- so if you can come on the early side, that would be great!

    Hi Jasmine,
I just want you to know that I read what your mom wrote and it made me smile. If you can be so brave at only 5 years old you are going to grow up to be truly remarkable lady. Know that you have given me strength today. I'll promise to smile big this weekend with you in my heart.
  • LeslieAnn Butler

Okay! I will make sure I'm there! By the way, I might have short hair instead of long, depending on my mood!

    Hi Girls,
Just wanted to confirm that I will be seeing you tomorrow night between 5:30 and 6 -- I'm looking forward to meeting you both!
I have another event to attend that starts at 6:30 which is dressy, so don't be shocked that I am in cocktail attire! Everyone else there will be in jeans. I will look peculiar! Oh well.
    Big hugs, LeslieAnn
  • LeslieAnn Butler

Hi Again! Just to let you know, I will not be wearing a cocktail dress tonight after all -- so see you in my jeans!
