Hi Renee, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us and we look forward to your input. Cheryl, co-founder
Hi there Rene! I hope you and the family are doing well. I read in one of your posts "I've been using tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner to wash her hair, after her bath or whatever while her pores were still open I would apply Lavender oil, Rosemary oil, Red Thyme oil and tea tree oil." How did you decide to use these items? I'd appreciate the names of items, and more information, when you have time. Thanks!
Hi again Rene! Thanks so much for the information regarding the products you are using. My kids are 10 & 11, so they shower on their own. I think I'll shop on the internet for the shampo and conditioner, to see if I can get a better deal than the health food stores. Once I bought sea kelp tablets from the health food store, for my daughter (the last & first time she had AA - age 8), but before I gave those to her, I learned they can cause thyroid problems, so I did not give her any. Sorry your daugther has had extensive hair loose, but I am so glad she is experiencing regrowth. Have you taken her to the dermatologist ~ or just a regular M.D.? Have you adjusted her diet at all? How long did it take her to loose it all? Did it start off as spotty AA? My kids are tolerating the shots & their AA is still naturally concealed. My daughter has been treating longer and has regrowth. I really think Roggaine works, as it along with a steroid cream brought back the 1/4 scalp hair my daughter lost in four months, the last time around. Take care & I hope to hear back from you soon!
Hi again! By changing her diet, I meant did you start giving her a daily multi-vitamin if you had not done so before? Maybe your family has always been pretty healthy eaters ~ so there might not be a need for a change in diet? We pretty much avoid all junk foods ~ no McDonalds, etc. I used to take the kids at least once a week when they were younger for McDonalds, etc., pre-AA. I think you are making the wise decision to avoid the injections with your daugther, and only consider doing so when she regains all of her hair, then only if at some point small spots appear. My kids' spots are small, so we feel the injections are the best treatment option. If anything, you could consider the Roggaine and Cortio-steroid (spelling?) cream. I know what you mean by hassels with insurance! Every four weeks we face the $25.00 co-pay per kid, then there is the percentage the insurance does not cover. For what I pay per month for the kids to receive the shots treatment, I could almost make a car payment. However, I would most certainly drive an "Old Betsy Bomb" if necessary, for my kids to continue receiving treatment!! When we treated with the Roggaine & cream, we took my daughter to the derm. every five to six weeks for check ups, which was much more afforadable, but the hair loss was rapid, and it took so many months to get the hair back! Well, I'd better go now as it is my turn to be in the "Kitty Trap." Kitty Trap means: We have a fat lazy cat, and during the evening time, each family member takes turns letting her sit on our laps ~ or she will meow at each family member, and it is like she is yelling at us :o)
