Hi Mike -- nice to see someone who lives not far from me. I am near Saskatoon.

    Hey Mike,

I'm glad you are doing well and as healthy as a MFer (haha).
I had the "World Map" thing going on for a couple months until that all dissapeared. I just have litte white hairs now which I shave every couple of days.
Never tried Nair but did think about it.

    Hi Mike,
I don't know if laser works, but I would be cautious of the possibility of scarring. You know a very old trick to stop hair growth is applying a simple cold cream. Apply it every day, and if it doesn't work, your side effect will only be softer younger skin. You could also have electrolysis, but heard its very costly, and not guaranteed. My husband has lots of hair, and as you see he shaves, and has found it just won't go away..lol

And Mike, I can relate to the "patches", it does offend, and ya, they probably don't mean it at all. Maybe you should say something, if there close friends, i'm sure they would stop it, and understand.
  • kastababy

Why do you let your buddies call you Patches if you don't find it funny or endearing at all? Your friends will only do what you ALLOW them to do -- if you let them keep calling you that, then it's because by not saying anything that you have given them permission to continue.

I look forward to getting to know you! Welcome to our site!!!

hey there Mike nice to meet you fairly new on .here. Whats your insight ,messaged ended would like to hear any information on alopecia before we start seeing doctors. I'm going to try to see a well known doctoer at sick kids who has done alot of research on alopecia.

Hi Mike, I know what you mean. Although I know there is over 4.5 million people with alopecia, there is something different about seeing them and relating to them. On our daily days we don't come in contact with each other in the streets, in shopping centers, in our work places, so it is easy to feel that we are so few. Then a site like this is started and in less than 3 months there are over 1000 of us corresponding. The reality hits that we are truly not alone and there are a lot of us out there. Glad you are here! Are you going to the conference?
  • kastababy

Actually, those are my nieces and my nephew -- I'm allergic to children (LOL). You're right -- I have a VERY Type A personality and tend to be a little too aggressive for most people's tastes, but oh well! I'm not as thin-skinned as I used to be growing up with AA, but I still have my moments as an adult. So glad to talk to you!!!

Hey Mike, were pretty much in the same boat learned more in a month than any doctor has told us, but we learned through other people that not to expect it just to go away.We have found a Dr. at sick kids Toronto, who has done many studies and experimented with different creams on children with some success but what i gather from reading her results and footnotes is that even with the study she can't explain why some kids fully recovered never lost hair again some no effect with the drug and some lost hair again short time later. So this is truly a situation where were not expecting miracles but we have to at least go through few options but injections never especially steroids.

Oh by the way Mike my wifes originally from Alberta, Grande Praires and she lived in Calgary for a while.
  • kastababy

That's true, but since I've sort of made it a calling card of sorts by being controversial, I think I would get bored if I wasn't stirring the pot with my opinions, let alone picking apart the opinions of others!!!! LOL
  • JeffreySF

Thanks Mike, I keep hearing the same thing about Nair. I haven't had the balls to try for myself.
