About Me:
I am a young looking 50 y.o. woman who was recently diagnosed with Alopecia. It all started around Thanksgiving time, while in TX visiting my daughter, when she was drying my hair. She said, "Mom you have a bald spot!" That small bald spot has gotten much bigger (probably the size of a half-dollar now) and I find my hair everywhere in the house. Now it seems like on the sides it is really thinning out and I'm scared to death that I will go totally bald. Any help, assurances, etc. would be very much appreciated.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

    Hello and welcome, Pamela!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Hi Jeff, nice to hear from you again. How are you doing? Happy 4th of July. I'm less worried regarding my Alopecia - as I've posted, it's not gotten any bigger, and I still have only one spot. Thank God! My Dermatologist is now calling it Alopecia scarring.

HI PAMELA, I HAVE BEEN BALD GOING ON 3 YEARS - IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS HAIR HAS BEEN GROWING BACK, MINE STARTED AT A TENIS BALL SIZE PATCH AT THE BACK OF MY HEAD, THIS PATCH THEN HAD BABIES, WHICH IN TURN HAD BABIES - THATS WHEN I SHAVED WHAT WAS LEFT OFF. IT WAS SO BAD!!(MIND YOU MY GIRLFRIEND SHAVE WHAT WAS LEFT OF WITH HER FANNY CLIPPERS)
"HAIR IS THE RICHEST ORNAMENT OF WOMEN" MARTIN LUTHER QUOTE. AND IT IS SO TRUE! - THE FIRST 2 MONTHS WERE THE WORST, SEEING ALL THE HAIR FALL OUT AND HAVING NO WAY TO STOP IT, WITH ALL DR SAYING THAT IS JUST ALOPECIA, IT MAY / MAY NOT GROW BACK. WELL FOR ME I WANT ANSWERS, I HAVE BEEN TO EVERYONE, I AM NOW BEENING LOOKED AFTER BY A PROF OF IMMUNOLOGY, HE HAS FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE 2 AUTO IMMUNE PROBLEMS AND IN ONE OF THEM YOUR HAIR CAN FALL OUT. I AM AND HAVE BEEN FOR THE LAST 6-9MONTHS BEEN TAKING CHEMO DRUGS (STRANGE I KNOW) AND IT HAS WORKED FOR ME. THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE BAD, AND IVE BEEN QUITE SICK ON SOME OF THEM BUT I CAN SEE RESULTS - AM AT WORK SO I BETTER GO - GOOD LUCK RACH
