this is a wig of natural hair. I wear wigs to 15 years, so accustomed to.
previously had a wig of synthetic hair, it is not so convenient.
  • Anna Harmbi

  • Jenn

Scarves now. I used to wear more wigs, but I am now much more comfortable without a wig.
  • Diane

    Bonjour Karina!
    Thanks for the compliments!
I usually wear a scarf or nothing... but I'm not comfortable wearing nothing outside my home.. so inside my home I'm with nothing but as soon as I go outside, I'm wearing a scarf or a bandana!
    Diane :)

hi,karina!right now when i go out i wear a hat because i hate when people stare at me.i"m still a litle selfconcious about my problem.i have a wig that my sister sent me from the united states but i refuse to wear it.i prefer the hat.add me if you like.love.anabela
  • Ms. Erin

Hi Karina....I find it easy to wear wigs. I have more of an issue going out with a hat or scarf on than I do a wig. Those other things seem to bring attention that i don't want.
  • Pat

Hi Karina, I wear human hair wigs. The one in my profile pic is virgin human hair injected onto a thin skin base, and yes it is very comfortable. What type of wig do you wear?
  • Renee

Yes, I usually wear a wig. At least out in public. I just watched the movie Grey Gardens with Drew Barrymore and it looked like Little Edie had Alopecia Areata. She did a great job with her scarves. I wish I could pull that off like she did.

Hi Karina, it depends on the wig. Educate yourself about the way wigs are made and find out more about wigs from Brooklyn by checking out the resources in my article http://www.examiner.com/x-12088-Brooklyn-Jewish-Examiner~y2009m6d4-Headed-in-the-right-direction-the-head-covering-as-marker-of-a-Jewish-womans-identity-Part-II.

Hola Karina! Al fin una Argentina! jaja
Gracias!
Segui fuerte!
    Cuidate, besottes.

Hey Karina, the wigs arnt too bad, they can be itchy and hot but you do get used to them, I have found some great ones,
How do you feel about wigs?
  • Pamela Rosse

Hello Karina, thank you for the nice welcome & the friendship. I love this site, for so long I thought I was all alone. Now it appears I have a new friends in Argentina. Take Care
  • Somaaya

Hi yes i am wearing a wig it is ok and comfortable can live it wat do you wear to cover it up
  • Jennifer Krahn

    Hey Karina,
Thanks for the kind compliments. I have two wigs right now. The one in my profile picture is a human hair wig. I would love to tell you the brand but I got it locally at a wig shop so no idea. The inside is a very fine mesh, with plastic tabs along the hairline that allow it to stay on with confidence. The second shorter wig in my profile picture I got online. It is called "Codi" from Amore. I got it from the site namebrandwigs.com. First time I ordered and am in LOVE with it also. It is synthetic but very light, very breathable and very comfortable. The color is toasted brown. The Amore wigs are fabulous so far. If you have any other questions let me know. Have a good one.
  • Anastasya

Hi! Karina! Thank you! I wear a wig of natural hair and wear it constantly.
  • Jennifer Krahn

To be honest, I began to hate the way my hair was looking too...that's when my husband shaved it off. It hurt emotionally, but once done, I didn't feel sick anymore and my confidence boosted up again. I began to tell all my friends and family about the a.a. (not something that everyone does) and everyone was super supportive and understanding. They didn't care at all that I was wearing a hairpiece. Some friends still couldn't get over the fact that I was wearing a hairpiece. We have to realize that this isn't our fault. It happens, just as diabetes, cancer happens. We have to recognize our feelings of mourning and deal with them. I'm sure you still look wonderful. If your hairpiece isn't feeling good, try a different one possibly. That's how I've coped thus far. Hope this helps.
  • LeslieAnn Butler

    Hi Karina!
I wear wigs all the time and I'm really used to it by now!
I have told the world, basically, because I wrote a book on the subject (which just won two national awards!), called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It's available on Amazon.com and is shipped all over the world. It might answer some of your questions and make you feel a lot better to boot!
Let me know how else I can help!
    Hugs, LeslieAnn

    Hello Katina!

Thank you for the compliment! :) Fortunately I am not at the point I need to wear a wig. I have several bald spots but am able to cover them with my hair. I do have one new spot in the front near my temple I am staring to worry about.....who knows!

How are you doing? Sorry you all the stress you have- hopefully being able to talk to people on this site will help. I'm certainly happy to help if I can!

    Heather

  • Lori Van Decker

Is it comfortable wearing wigs? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I only wear them for a few hours a day, and sometimes not at all for an entire day. Back when I worked in Manhattan every day, I wore the vacuum wigs daily and it never bothered me...until the menopause hot flashes started. Then they became unbearable. I think you just get used to whatever you really want to.
  • Laura Lee

It's a lace front wig that I got here in Toronto Canada. It's fairly comfortable, but can get really itchy on a hot day.
    How is everything with you?
  • Pamela Rosse

Hi Karina, why yes I am wearing a wig, it's my first. To be honest with you I have no idea what brand or who made it, it came from a little wig shop here in Riverside, after trying on I don't know how many she found this one, Sophie Synthetic I call her. I will see if the shop lady can give me the info & forward it to you.
  • Ronda

    I HAVE 13 DIFFERENT WIGS.
THEY ARE HOT AND THEY ITCH TOO.
BUT ITS OK AFTER YOU GET USE TO IT.
I BOUGHT ALL OF MINE OFF THE INTERNET.
PAULA YOUNG.COM, BEAUTY TRENDS, THE WIG COMPANY.
I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS BUT HANG IN THERE AND IT GETS BETTER EACH DAY.
I FEEL NEW HAIRS TOO BUT IT TAKES SO LONG TO GROW BACK BUT IT SEEMED LIKE IT FELL OUT SO QUICK.
I WONDER IF IT IS STRESS RELATED BUT I DIDN'T THINK I HAD STRESS MUCH BUT ONE WILL NEVER KNOW HUH?
    TAKE CARE
  • Marie

I find my wigs comfortable. I forget that I'm wearing them. I have some hair left on my head since I have not shaved it all off. So, I think that may make it more comfortable because the wig does not actually rub on my skin in very many places. On the other hand, not having a shaved head makes it a little hotter. To me, wigs are no more uncomfortable than wearing contact lenses. In most regards, I'd easily put up with a tiny bit of discomfort to look good. (I'm the type of person who works in 3 1/2 in heels all day because they are hot!) :-)
  • anabela pimenta

    hi karina!
thank you for your comment!i don t wear anything to hide my lack of hair when i go out!this is who i am and whoever loves me and cares about me it s for me and not for my hair!i know how hard it is when people stare at you but in time you will get used to it.if you know how to love yourself it s a matter of time before everyone around you learn to love you for who you are.fell free to ask me anything, if you need to11love:anabela
  • Sylvie Montpetit

    Hi Karine,

I have found a new system which is a vacuum system I have not received it yet but I know it will be more comfortable than a wig. Yes I did wear a wig for 2 years and now I wear a customized hair system which is glued to my head it looks really good but the comfort is not very good, I hope that this vacuum system will be just as nice but with the comfort.
  • brenda kay

Hi Karina, The wig is not too bad. if i survicve 90 degree summers here in Illinois, I guess I can deal with it. No growth underneath, I highly doubt my hair will return. I have come to terms with the fact that I am bald. No one has seen me au natural!!!! Today i went on a go-cart for the firsty time in 20 years and my wig didnt blow away!!!!!! haha.
  • Somaaya

its a normal synthetic wig wbu?
  • Sonia

no not yet not sure what to do im wearing a head band and wearing my hair curly so it covers the spots but im getting a spot in front above the ear and starting to see it so not sur what to do.
  • Lucy Rogers

I have a real hair wig, and a synthetic one and they are both comfy now that i have got used to wearing them for long periods of time! :)
  • Mandy

Hi Karina. I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time. :o( My hair has actually just started growing back, so I'm no longer wearing my wigs, but yes, when my hair was gone I wore wigs all the time. I have 3 different wigs. To answer your question, yes, I told people about my alopecia. I'm proud of it and it makes me happy to share my story with others. Be proud of what's INSIDE of you, not what's on the outside - what you look like on the outside doesn't matter. I really didn't feel like my life changed much with my hair loss - people treated me the same as always and I still felt confident and beautiful. It's all about acceptance and loving yourself - once you can make your peace with alopecia, there is no reason to let it get you down. :o) Hang in there, darlin! And to answer your other question - my wigs were perfectly comfortable...no tape, no, glue, nothing like that. I like the Jon Reneau wigs and the Raquel Welch (I think that's how you spell it) wigs. I went with artificial hair, not human hair, because it was easier to style, etc. Let me know if I can help any other way!
  • Leslee

Hi Karina. In this pic is Romance by Revlon, and now I use Erika by Noriko. They are pretty "comfortable" a little hot in the summer
  • Rebecca Anne Richardson

hey Karina! i cant tell u how many people including myself know exactly what you are going through,...it is annoying and weird and humiliating,...but I think the best advice i can give you is to find something about yourself that you love and WORK IT :-) ...for me I picked my butt, lol Honestly I love my booty, and when my hair started to fall out again I got these jeans that make it look Killer,..this way i felt confident to go out, weather i had a wig on or not. I love wearing wigs, I think of them as a fashion statement, I have the leg up on my girlfriends because I can change my style as much as i want. They can be annoying but when u feel good about yourself you dont think about how the wig feels. one of my best friends heather doesnt wear a wig and she struts her stuff all the time. Really no one cares, and if someone asks about ur hair, tell them! see it as a chance to spread knowledge about hair loss and what it is like. change the social norm about what "beauty" really is,...dont worry girly,..it might be scary now, but we are all just like you, your not alone, and you are for sure beautiful! xo Becca

    Hi Karina...
i am wearing a human hair wig that you tape down to your skin... with a special double stick tape. It is the best... I have no worries that it will get pulled off or it will fly off my head with big wind. I have been wearing it for about 6 years. One wig costs about 1400$can. and it lasts about 16 months if you take care of it well.
    Good luck...
  • Carol Yuen

i have a european human hair wig that costed me 2700..very expensive sigh.....mine is not taped or anything..is just a cap..is comfortable to wear..but is hard to manage long hair..they tangle all the time..is too hot to wear a wig with 30+ degrees though
  • Jasmine Ellis

Karina. my wig is revlon. really cheap. kinda difficult to manage because it is long. all wigs are comfortable after a while but it takes time to get used to it. and yes alot of people know about my condition. ive been losing my hair for like 7 months and i finally like 3 weeks ago got a wig. people are very supportive.
  • Tracey L.

Hi Karina - The Freedom Wig is a 100% human hair vacuum wig. By that I mean they take a mold of your head and then when you place it on your head it creates a vacuum that will not come off unless you stick your fingers underneath the back to seperate it from your head. It kind of makes a "burbing" sound. No glue or anything because it is made to fit my head exactly. Very comfortable and ultra secure for swimming even!. And yes you have to have no hair on your head. When I had small spots left I just shaved them off. Expensive...$3,000+
  • Lori Black

Karina, I don't have a favorite. I just get he best deal I can in the style or color I like. I have recently begun wearing a new style with a new color and I have enjoyed the change. I have been a red-head for several years and needed something new. The last few wigs I purchased, I bought on ebay. Very cute and cheap! I have no hair at all, so the best ones for me are any that have an elastic or velcro band at the back of the neck so it tightens sort of like a bandana or wrap around head band would, I have never lost one to wind or other weather misshaps either. Some slippage has occurred and I used to wear them that had double sided sticky tape to hold them in place and that worked well for complete baldness, with some hair remaining I used a wig that had small clip type combs sewn into the front and side lining that clipped to your own hair underneath. I can't stand paying alot for them, they only really look nice for 6 months or so if you wear them all the time, so cheap works for me. I have had one that cost as much as $350 (real hair)and some (synthetic) as cheap as $10 ( I didn't love the $10 to be honest, but we live and learn) the one I currently have I bought 2 just alike and only pd $75 for both on ebay. I Hope this helps!! Lori
  • Lori Black

they can be a little painful at first, I think my head just has to develope a groove where the elastic rests and then it's ok usually takes a few wears. As for being scared, fear is an enemy no matter what the situation and as for this hair loss one, I can only quote you a Bible verse that has helped me numerous times in the last few years. It is in Isaiah 41:10,
" 10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (New Living Translation)
Do you believe in the Living God of Heaven? I stake my life on Him, without Him I would not be able to survive anything and especially not the emotional roller coaster of hairloss!! Praise Him that I am not ill, just hairless!! Bless you!! I will check back in a little while,I need to get my little boys to bed for the night. OK? God loves you, Karina, He wants to be your help!! Lori
  • Samantha

Karina...thanks! I actually do not wear a wig. I have been able to get by on hats and bandana's when I lose my hair. I do have a pretty decent patch right now that is continuously getting bigger. If it keeps spreading, it could be bad news. Do you have any pics? do you have to wear a wig yet?
  • julie

I havent been on here for quite a while as i've been doing a bit better yet tonite maybe due to my kids being gone and i'm alone... i took a shower and washed my hair and when i was blow drying it i looked in mirror and the feelings came back but i cant afford to get like that again.. mine is wierd it just doesnt lay right... and i just have too much for a wig.. yet i just dont know what to do.. my hairdresser says i worry 2 much and its not anything.. i just hate the way i look a lot and i cant help it.. no one understands unless they have been thru it.. thanks for your email as i need to talk to someone today..
  • lidia

Well... I lost all my hair by the age of 11 and it took me a long time to accept it. I share this information only with those that i trust or feel that should know about my wig. I am not ashamed of it but i dont easily give this information out in the world. I dont think everyone has the right to know all of your privot information. One thing i must say... the hardest part about alopecia was the in between... where you are at now. That was hard... Not having enough hair on your head .... but yet.... having them on.
    Good luck to you...
  • Mandy

I'm not sure what you mean. I wore wigs every day for a year. And yes, they were secure.
  • Joy Cortes

Te tengo que conseguir la marca....pero lo compre en un beauty aqui en PR!
