About Me:
Hello everyone. I joined this site on Thursday, August 20th 2009. About 5 weeks prior, I noticed three spots on my head after a hair cut. I initially thought I had gotten a REALLY bad haircut and shrugged it off. After about 1.5 weeks, I noticed that the spots really haven't grown in at all. Upon closer examination, I realized they were completely bald.

3 weeks later, I went to my General Practictioner, then to my Dermatologist and they confirmed that I had AA. During the course of those 3 weeks, the original 3 spots got much worse (bigger), and about 4 more spots came up of varying sizes. Some coalesced together to form a bigger spot.

Anyway, needless to say, I was rather freaked out by the whole ordeal. If that wasn't bad enough, while at the doctor's office, I found out I also had high blood pressure. I'm unsure if the stress of my hair falling out contributed to it, or if it was just my general health.

Right now, I'm focusing on my blood pressure and trying to get that down naturally with excercise, diet, and weight loss. So far the numbers have come down, but still not below normal 120/80 ranges yet. I keep telling myself that the BP is the more important issue and the AA shouldn't bother me. Truth be told, it still bothers me.

If ALL that wasn't bad enough, all this happened just weeks before my 35th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY INDEED!!! :-)

Its exceptionally hard for me since my wife is working abroad for a few years. She's wonderful, exceptional, and supportive. However, SKYPE can only go so far. She's entirely strong and my rock though.

Anyway, I was reassured when I found this site and hope I can make some connections with many of you. I could certainly use some advice and support right now, and promise I will give the same in return.

Take care,

John

    Hi John

    Welcome to AW.

I'm also a fairly new member around here and am completely freaked out by AA spots.

I also have high BP and am now on tablets for it as it was deemed to be genetic and unaffected by my weight. If you do go down the route of tablets to lower your BP then insist on ones without any side effects of hair loss and I'm convinced that being put on to 2 different tablets with this as a listed side effect aggravated my AA. I'm now on a third tablet and things have calmed down a lot.

This site has been a great help to me, and I'm sure you'll find it to be the same.

    Take care
    Robert

    John,
Thanks for the friend add! Feel free to drop me a line any time. Looks like I went through something very similar to what you are now going through and we probably have very similar hair type. Best wishes!

John - I did get your message(s) and I've replied. Sometimes the messaging system here seems to hang but in the end the messages seem to get through.

    Hi John

Sorry that I missed you online earlier.

I'm having one of those feeling sorry for myself days. Been trying to keep myself busy recently just to take my mind off things but today I just couldn't be bothered at all.

This AA is just so unpredictable and I've let it get the better of me today.

    How are you doing?

Thank you for the compiment on my writing. It was nice to hear that from someone who didn't feel a need to say it was good. I am actually 20. I didn't realize it but I clicked the wrong age. Sorry. I'm kind of embarressed. My fault

Hi John - you were very encouraging to me on my blog page & when I read my response later it didn't come over the way I meant it to. I was trying to be encouraging as I also found in the early stages the worst. (when I had patches and tried growing my hair & combing it certain ways & using loads of hair laquer to keep it there). It really helped me when I decided to accept the fact my hair was leaving and cut what was left really short. It all went eventually anyway! The world seems full of bald men now. My own son is bald (not alopecia, just early male pattern baldness) but he shaves off what he has left and looks really good - and his girlfriend thinks so too!

having a good day thankx. Let me know how you get on. I've just managed to download my photo (quite an achievement for me as I am not very up to date with computers). I'm in full disguise - wig, drawn-on eyebrows, eyeliner and glasses! This is how I present myself to the outside world - what a coward I am. Lovely to hear from you, keep in touch, Diana x

OMG you are a Sushi Fanatic. How about the Saki?

    Hey John

Thanks for checking in with me. Still having a bit of a rough time - can't seem to shake it off just now but I'll be back up soon (I hope)

    How you doing?

Hi John. I was actually diagnosed on Thursday August 20th 2009 with AA. Weird. :} Do you live in the bay area? I am assuming that we might be in the same stage of this process given your story. Sometimes I just wish that whatever is going to happen just happen instead of this drawn out torture of watching my hair come out in clumps. How are doing? Has the shedding and bald spots stopped for you? I am trying not to live in the future, but it's hard not too.

I'm off today so going to hit up the gym this morning and maybe the aquarium this afternoon.

Hope you are having a great day.
