I am 27 years old, bubbly, fun, great job. In August 2009, I noticed a tiny bald patch on the top of my head. It got bigger gradually and in Dec I started finding more bald patches. Over the last month (March 2010) I have started to lose hair all over my body, including lashes and brows. The only place I don't seem to have been affected on are my arms. I still have all the tiny hairs there. I now have went from having alopecia areata to having alopecia universalis.
At the minute I am able to cover up the patches. I have been to the doctor but he doesn't seem to care. He gave me a steroid cream called Betnovate which I have been using every night before bed. I also went to a health food shop and got lots of vitamins. I dont have the best diet and think I dont eat a lot of food with protein or drink milk etc and a friend told me this could be connected. A few weeks before the bald patch started, I had a french plait done in that exact area. It had been pulled really tightly so it would stay in and when I found the patch I put it down to this and thought it was traction alopecia. But since I have found more patches, I am beginning to think this was just a coincidence. I also have a very stressful job (I train unemployed adults and take them to America, Canada or Spain for work experience). This yr I was in all 3 countries which meant I was away from home for 6 months. I take 21 students between the ages of 18 and 28 by myself and they're issues range from alcoholism, depression etc. I have to be on 24 hr call and would get calls in the early hours of the morning to rush to hospital as someone has been injured or I would have to go to the local jail as someone has been arrested. I thought the stress of the job could be a factor but the doctor told me stress is not the issue. However, I don't have a lot of faith in doctors. Sorry for going on lol....I guess I am just trying to justify why this is happening
