I have had Alopecia since I was two, but varying stages. I had most of my hair until I was 32 and pregnant with my third child...( I had 101) ways to cover a bald spot, probably not much different than alot of you! At this time I went Totalis losing all my scalp hair...it did come back in after 2 years. I was so greatfull...but alopecia just kind of lurks in the background, plus having it so young I was bound to lose it again! About a year and a half ago when I became the hippest grandma ever...I went AU and have been that way since. I tried Immuno suppresents which made me achey and my legs swell...so the only thing left would be prednisone...hell no! I wont go...I know their are harder things in life than being bald. Last time I lost my hair...I had to wear my wig out, I wasn't comfortable with myself without it (and they have come a long way). This time I very seldom wear a wig...If I want to, or have to dress up I wear one...otherwise I just wear a dambanna. You can find fun ones online.
Hi Glenda, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us.
I have a theory or two...or three!
That after months of cortisone steroid injections...big bumps & creaters on my scalp, I woke up one morning, unable to move.Unable to stand and the worst of all, up until that day, I would run long distances.
Weight training was part of my life and there I was, "Stuck Like Chuck"
After some time..I got my speed up to walking.
All I want to do right now....is get back to lifting weights.
Even though it's a Marathon on it's own to get the strength up, I am not giving in.
lIFE, HERE I COME!

Hi Glenda
I wanted to personally thank you for your response to my blog. You are so very right....i need to stop judging myself by the standards society has set for us. If we all judged ourselves as God looks at us, this world would truly be a different place. One not filled with hate and war. Instead we would all be loving people. My friends on here including you, have been a source of strength and each of you are truly amazing! Thank you for your friendship, Glenda! I am here for you if you ever need to vent! Thank you again soooooo much!!!! I hope to chat soon!
Hey Glenda! Just wanted to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving! Have a fab weekend too, My hubby and I are going out on black Friday.....first time ever! Beginning to think we are a little nuts...hahaha! Hope to talk soon!
i actually ordered it at the hair salon. they have all the books and styles and colors all there.. its in monroeville, PA. they are an amazing older coulple! they run the salon themselves and do "normal hair too" haha. they measure everything and call and order the wig for you. i got my first one in april. i wear it everyday, until i go to sleep so it lasted a good 8 months through a rough summer of working at an amusement park lol! it doesnt slip at all! i use double sided tape and tape the top like on my forehead.. its perfect! you can curl, straighten, and scrunch. i was told NOT to color it though. i can give you the number if you want to call them and talk to them? you can tell them i told you to call... im like their adopted daughter haha :) im so glad i found this website with others that are going through it too cause ppl who arent, just DONT understand! thank you for saying im stunning! i lost all self confidence going through this but having the full lact wig was my saving grace! i am getting my cofidence back! hope all is going good :) talk to you soon....
it was $996. i wear mine at the gym w/ a hat over it so it doesnt sweat off! happened a few times :( i dont let anyone bring me down anymore... its not worth it.... but about the wigs, they are amazing! they find the perfect one for you, and et u look through the books.... its (412)372-3377, Their names are Donna & Bill.. their assistant is Kelly. Just tell them I told you about them, then they will know... (: Give them a call and I hope they can help you as they helped me .. Have a good day! :) - Mallorie.
Hey girl.....a couple of more questions for you. Do you wear eyelashes and what did you do about your eyebrows? I havent lost those yet but I bet it wont be long! I know I have told you this before but I a lady can't hear it often enough! You are just beautiful bald....if I was as pretty as you bald I probably wouldnt care so much. I have a long face and a flat head in the back....so I am sure I am NOT going to look ok bald...UGHHHH!! This condition STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey girl....I read your posts on Chelsea's page and I wanted to share something with you. I am heading to Chicago to get my first lace front european hair from a place of Brian Blanchard....http://wigsforcancerprivacy.com is his website. I dont know what you budget is like but it is going to cost me $2300. His cap are all hand made and hand knotted with lace in front so you can wear it without bangs. There is a lady on here by the name of Andrea Kacmarski (Sp?) that wears one of his wigs.......it is amazingly beautiful.....no way would I ever been able to tell. She also has a facebook account with lots more photos on there. Brian the owner....told me we could do everything by mail but to be honest spending that much...I want to lay my hands on it first. If you have any questions....shoot me an email and please wish me luck!!! Scared to death!!!!!!!!!
Hey Glenda. I am sooo nervous I cant hardly stand it right now. I sure hope this wig looks ok. It better for 2300!!!! I am heading up on Tuesday of this next week. I am freaking out about such an inexpensive investment...ughhh!! I am also thinking of calling Karen with freedom wigs while I am there to see if we can meet and discuss the freedom wigs. Have you seen those? I think most of them look great...even though I have seen a few that look kinda wiggy. Thanks for the good luck wishes, Really going to need it!
