Hi Irene,
How are you and your daughter going? How old is your daughter? Has she had Alopecia for very long?
Hope you enjoy being a member of this site. I have found the other members very supportive.

Hi Irene
My son has had periods of coping well and periods of not coping at all. We have just had a bad period the last six months and he is starting to come out of it with a little bit of counselling and lots of love and support. He is starting a new school on Thursday. A very close friend of his goes to this school and it is a small Christian school. Jon says that he feels very comfortable there so here's praying that it all goes well.
We have tried to encourage Jon to get a wig but he is just not interested. It is good that Caitlin is getting one. I hope that wearing it will make her feel more confident in herself. I hear that they are a very good wig, very well made. The ones I have seen (in photos) look very natural too so that is a big positive.
Will be thinking of her. Let me know how things go with it and please post a photo of her in her new wig.
Regards
Susan

Caitlin is beautiful. She obviously takes after you too.
I am sure that she will meet these new challenges head on and move forward with her life. Especially seen as she has you to help her through it all.
Keep in touch

Hi Irene thanks for adding us to your friends list. Caitlin is georgous.......How long has she had Alopecia for.....Nicole developed it when she was 8.........now 13 ......gosh and what a journey it has been =).
We look forward to getting to know you both. Take care

Hi Irene........thanks for your lovely comments........she is a georgous wee thing but I'm biased lol. As far as dying goes the hair dresser does it and I am pretty sure it is all ok.....infact the colour is a good conditioning treatment for the hair it always looks georgous after it's done:).

Caitlin is a beautiful girl. I hope she is coping well. She looks very happy in her pics :) The wig I have is synthetic. I was thinking of getting a real hair wig but didn't see much difference between the two and the synthetic one matches my hair colour exactly, whereas I couldn't find a human hair wig that did. I have heard a lot about freedom wigs though. Where in the UK are they available and are they expensive? I am going for my second wig on Friday....apparently if you have alopecia you can get 2 a year free on the NHS. If I had waited I could have got the wig I'm wearing now for free and saved myself £500 lol but I needed one pretty quickly. I dont mind though because it def brings a lot of confidence and having afew different wigs will be great if I want a change :)
Wow that is expensive, but if it lasts for 5 years then it will def be worth it. I thought I could feel some regrowth but my doctor told me not to get my hopes up as they could just be exclamation mark hairs? I asked if he could refer me to a dermatologist and he said he doesn't think there is any point. I'm a bit annoyed at that because I haven't been officially told I have alopecia areata. The blood tests I had done 2 weeks ago came back normal so I'm thinking this is down to stress as my hair only started falling out in August. I am praying it will grow back soon though
Hiya Irene! Thanks for accepting me as your friend and thank you for the lovely compliment. I can honestly say that I think your daughter is stunning (must take after her mum) and must be very brave. I cannot imagine having to deal with alopecia at such a young age especially as at that age image and self confidence is very important and people can be cruel. Anyway, I'm here if you wanna talk. Take care! K x
