I have had AA since I was 6 years old. I have used every medication out there for treatment. I recently decided to stop all treatment of my AA and buy a wig. I now have my first wig and am slowly adjusting to the change.
I work as a Pediatric Nurse! I love my job and could never do anything else!
I got Married on July 26, 2008, to the most loving man in the world! He would love me even if all my hair was to fall out!
Hi Beth, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us and we look forward to your input. Cheryl, co-founder
Waynesville is in southeast Georgia. Have you been to Jekyl Island or St. Simons Island? It is about 20 miles southwest. Your wedding pics are beautiful
Hi Beth,
Welcome to Alopecia World. Your wedding pictures are beautiful! I love the picture of you, your husband and dog...so cute!! Hope you are having a great week.
Sarah
Hi Beth,
You are beautiful!
I know how hard alopecia can be. I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It might make you feel better. Check it out on my page -- and let me know how else I can help.

Hi Beth, Happy Birthday. Make today a very special day. You look like your husband will make everyday special for you. Congratulations on such a happy marriage. I have been married to a wonderful man for 25 years and I hope the same for you. Once again have a very blessed Birthday!
I've ready some of your blogs & I'm fairly new to AA. I'm in the process of looking to purchase my 1st wig. I know you are looking to do the same. Did you ever decide on what you wanted? I wondered what you came up with as I'm looking too. I want a very natural looking piece. I was looking at Joseph Paris.
Jules
Thanks for your comment. I'm still deciding on which company I want to go with. I'm nervous about wearing my 1st wig but excited to move on with my life at the same time. How are you feeling about wearing a wig for the 1st time? I still have some hair too but I'm not ready to shave yet. Do you use tape or clips?
Can you stell me a little about follea, how did you find it locally? Did they style it for you?
No luck here in AZ. I think I'm going to order from IWIG.com, talked with the owner & she sounds really nice. How are you? Feeling more comfortable wearing your new hair?
You got some beautiful pictures there, I like the wedding pic too!
I guess yours is a freedom wig too..vacume wig?
Yes..they are crazy expensive.
I have a prosthesis & had to shave my hair, finding out that I might only be able to wear it during the cold. That's hard living in Florida!
I once had alopecia totalis & did everything to get it back.
I have come to the realization,it is better to have no hair, rather than some hair.
Shaving hurts & Pigmented, Sparse TOP is even worse.
Okay....I hope you are doing fine!
Mina
Thanks Beth for the comment! Where did you get that wig? Online or in person? It looks really good! Happy for you! I'm doing ok, thanks for asking! It's been a struggle, but all and all I'm doing ok now. How are you adjusting to all of this?? Keep in touch and take care! Melissa
it's a worry & that lil' hair feels more secure.Yet, I now take it all off & when I see the patchy mess come back..I then feel more inadequate, more embarrassed & uncomfortable.
Either way..it all feels very unpleasant..hair, no hair..mess..no mess.
Burning itching when it grows back for me...can't win or lose.
Yet I like the Sleek look better than the patches.
I feel more so "WHOLE"
So happy to hear you feel better now that you shaved your head, I think I might head that way soon. It's weird that we are going through this at almost the same stage. In the process of getting my 1st wig customised hope to have it soon. Excited & scared.
Contact me anytime, thinking of you, Jules
You know I don't think I would be confident enough to leave the house without wearing a wig either but this is still all so new, 6 months ago I had a full head of hair. I'm just looking forward to getting my wig now. I posted a pic of me before the aa started not sure what do do with with front of the wig as styling goes....maybe longer sweeping bangs...who knows. It's being customized & should get it soon. Just don't want it to look weird. Yours looks amazing!
I'm glad you're enjoying it! It looks fab. You getting used to wearing a wig? I know it can take some getting used to, if you aren't bonding I suggest you get a gel liner, it's a little gel band? i use it with my wigs and it helps a lot, I think I got mine for lori's wig site, I can't remember. Hope you had a good birthday!
Thanks, for the Birthday wishes, same to you :)
How are things going? Should get my wig in a couple of weeks. How you feel now about wearing your? Hope all is well & you have a great Thanksgiving!!
Hi Beth, I'm surprised to hear your having tangling, it may just be that cuticle hair has some drag. I would give it a leave in treatment, like olive oil, just down from the roots, not on the base. If that doesn't fix it, there's a vinegar trick I'll tell you about that helps close the cuticles.
Things are good. How was your Thanksgiving? Are you feeling more comfortable about wearing your wig now? Mine should be ready in a couple of weeks, so looking forward to it. How is your own hair holding up?
So happy to hear things are going well with you. I think I should get my wig in a couple of weeks. It's just taking so long as it in NY & I'm in AZ, so it has to be sent back & forth. I hope to get it by Christmas. I've had alot of white regrowth recently but who knows if it will turn into real hair :(
I'll let you know when I receive it. What are your plas for Christmas?
Hey,
Hope you enjoyed Christmas, can't believe it's almost New Year already....So I haven't even had my wig for a week yet & I love it. Thought it would take a while to get used to. It's alittle longer than I had wanted but I kinda like the length now & I can always cut it later. How are things with you?
Jules
Beth,
Please tell my about your wig. I read that it is custom. Does it have "lumps" anywhere, like at the nape? Since mine looks so real people have been touching my head and I am so worried they will feel the seams! How do you attach it? It's beautiful on you.
Happy New Year!!!
:) Stephanie
Hi there. My wig is a mono cap with European hair. I attach it with a comb along the hair line and two clips above my ears. If I want it really secure I use double sided tape at the nape. That stops it from bunching up. Thing is, I have a tiny head and the seamstress had to cut quite a lot off to fit it and I wonder if that is why I feel seams. I am just wondering if I had a wig made to my specifications would it be smooth all around?
Hey Beth! I'm good how are you? I am wearing my wig in the profile picture but have my own natural hair from the front pulled out from underneath so I can put it back like that. It's a human hair with mono top machine made. I'm actually waiting for a new one that is longer and due to some thinning in the front will most likely cut a side bang to make it look more natural. Are you wearing a wig in your profile pic? If so it looks great.
Congrats on your marriage! It takes a strong partner to support us through this process. I feel fortunate to have that type of relationship with my boyfriend too.
Hey Beth!!!! Thank you for the compliment! I am still pretty paranoid wearing it but it is better than it was! Your hair looks amazing too!!!!!!!!! Very pretty!!!!! Where did you get your hair piece from?
I'm adjusting much better than I thought I would, I think it's because I really like my wig. I'm just trying to figure out how to blowdry it as well as the person who cut it originally, guess it will take practice. How are you getting on?
Jules
