Hi,
I'm 66 years young, single and with 3 grown kids, and 9 grand-kids. I work during the day from 9am to 1pm. My job title is: File Clerk which is at the Dept of Social Services. I love the job. I'm with Dept of Aging. They found me this training. Yes training. I have to find a full time job with this program. Well, I lost all of my hair in the year 1973 or 74. Had a skin graft to tell me that they were sleeping. So I'll let you know more later.

If Medicare covers your thyroid test, I would go ahead! That might be the solution.
    Good luck with the results!

Joyce thank you for the gift! Big hugs to you!
Regarding your situation with wigs, I wear a wig all day, too. I also have a very sweaty scalp. When it's hot I like to wear my synthetic hair wigs which are made with wefts so naturally vented. They stay a lot cooler than hair with a silicone or lace base (although lace is the second coolest). Also, a synthetic wig is wash and wear, so if it's a hot day, or you're exercising and your scalp sweats you can easily wash it at night and wear it the next day. I have human hair, too: European hair, custom fitted. They are pretty spendy and not easily styled (I have it done by the woman who I get my wigs from, Brenda Kay), so I wear the human hair less -- for example, when I'm going out in the evening, when I'm getting my photo taken (because synthetic often shows up too shiny indoors on photos). On my page in my collection of photos, you can see my synthetic wig in the pix of my with the little boy at the piano and with the cupcakes. The other wigs are human hair.

Have you had the doctor check the itchiness? You might have an allergy. Some people have naturally sensitive scalp and wig wearing is more difficult for them. I don't have a problem with itchiness.
There is a liner you can get to wear inside your wig that will help with the sweating issue. Go to http://www.headlineitstore.com.

Let me know how you do!

I know, it's really hard, and alopecia is so unpredictable. You may get total regrowth, but then again, you may not. It's crazy. There's no cure now, although some cortisone treatments can make the hair grow back (that's not a cure, just a treatment for symptoms). Let me know what happens with you.BTW, I get my synthetic wigs at a discount on www.wigsalon.com. I like Rene of Paris and Noriko best.

I know, it is a hassle to buy wigs, but in the long run they are cheaper than getting your own hair cut, colored and styled every three or four weeks!
For synthetics, I wear Brandi by Rene of Paris. I cut bangs and length. I get those on www.wigsalon.com. There are a lot of different price points and styles on that web site and the prices are good. Sometimes they have special sales, too.

To find a support group near you, go to www.naaf.org. They have lists of support groups by cities. Also, I think they give you information on how to start your own.
