I'm 19 years old, I have suffered from hair thinning since I can remember, it has always caused me great anxiety but I'm starting to get over it and just accept how it is (or at least that's what I'm trying to do). I'm about to purchase my very first wig, though I'm not sure if I'm ready to wear one.
I'm originally Hungarian, now I'm going to Uni in England. It would be nice to meet people who have a similar condition :)
Lavira, Thank you for accepting my request. I am doing so much better than I was a few months ago. AW members have been a huge part of helping through the past month! I am loving some of my wigs, and am really enjoying changing styles and colors, w/o finding my hair all over the bathroom!!!
Lavira...found you somewhere in my AW travels...You are a pretty girl, and so very young..Have fun with wigs!! Experiment with styles and hair colors. I have had thin hair baby fine silky straight my entire life. I always used to say I hated my hair. Be careful what you say in life, as later it will come back to bite your butt..or bum as they say in the UK !!! Now, I would give anything just to have that thin baby fine hair I had. Now, the texture has changed, the shedding continues, the nape of my neck is completely gone too far up to wear my hair in any updo style...So it is just straggly and sorry looking. Yes, have fun with wigs...they can bring out a whole new personality in you, and sometimes maybe more confidence than thinning hair does...at least for me. Yes, some people stare, make comments, roll their eyes, wonder, but heck, they do that anyway. You have to toughen up and learn to ignore. I hope it makes us all stonger people.
I say, get a wig...at least one. Don't get a real cheapie wig, invest in something abit better. Try some on at a local shop if you have any. Look at yourself outside the shop with a mirror..see how you feel. I know how I have always felt..uplifted, at least initially to finally have hair and volume. I know about the looks from people..wondering what they think. If they think it is a wig....so what?? If they ask you, say "yes, and your point is??" I think we all often wonder what others are thinking, or how they view us...maybe it is a blessing that we don't really know!!! How sad, right? Maybe we think the worst, and it isn't really that way. I know about kids bullying ....the hurt stays with you a lifetime unfortunately and makes you insecure. Or at least, me.
