    Hi Aleroria,
I know how hard it can be. I have had alopecia for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It might make you feel better. Check it out on my page -- and let me know how else I can help.
Oh, and ask your dermatologist about Lumigan to keep or restore your eyelashes! It's a new discovery.

    Hi Aleoria, welcome to AlopeciaWorld!
  • LeslieAnn Butler

    Hi again,
Yes, you can get my book at Barnes & Noble's online bookstore, Amazon.com, or my author web site at www.leslieannbutler.npauthors.com.
I don't know if Lumigan works for eyebrows. They've only studied it in relation to eyelashes. If your eyebrows fall out, let me know--there are several options!
    Hugs!

I know, I'm not a fan of permanent tattoo eyebrows either.
I use Beau-ti-Full Brows temporary tattoo eyebrows which look REALLY NATURAL!
    xoxo!

  • Lisa

    Hi,
can you please tell me if the Shmuel Gonen hair up product worked for you, back in july you posted this and wondering if now in Sept. you saw any changes?
  • MiNAH

    no....i go B=A=L=D......hate that word!
You are so beautiful, so young & can carry the striking sleek bald look so well.
My head was totally bald, then it grew back to bald on top, hair around everywhere , other than the top.
Now I shave it & even now it's falling out..the patches are evident.
    I cannot wear wigs.
The prothetic silicone wig, freedomwig, vacume suction is great for cool weather.
The next best thing to skin...wont come off, but in Miami it's too hot.
I wish you could be strong enough to walk bald..because you are striking!
Family & friends will be weird...& so what!
Yes...I walk bald & people are great...it starts with you.
    Self esteem..................walk proud......walk tall.....be strong.
It never changes....yet we have to adapt & adjust.
Yet the sadness never, never goes away.
I wont let anyone destroy my life.
    Read my blogs!
    Yes...I ate it all.......everything!

Thanks for adding me dear. I thought i was the only nigerian with AA. Dont worry dear, just get excited about life and leave your worries to God. Be happy, show love to everyone and you'll be satisfied. Take care...
  • ADEOLA ADEFOLAJU

Thanks dear. I'm already checking the site and I pray it works for. I have been going to the Dermatology clinic here in Lagos every six weeks. The Dermatologists recomended Recti-A, 5% Benzoyl Peroxide and Synallar cream. I've been applying them for almost two years now but there has not really been any improvement. It hitches me most of the time. I'll check out the treatment you recomended and get back to you. Thaks alot and take care dear.
  • ADEOLA ADEFOLAJU

Hi darling, how have you been?

Thanks for the hair treatment website you suggested to me. I've checked the site, sent them a mail and they replied asking me details about my hair. I equally sent them some pictures.

However, they replied me a few days later that the chances that their treatment will work for me are very low and they do not want to give me a false hope.
They also said that my hair follicles are not alive anymore.

But I believe that with God all things are possible.

Thanks all the ame and take good care of yourself. Happy Val's day.

I havent heard of hair up but I want to try it. I got alopecia November 2008. It took me one year to grow bakk a head ful of hair.Im not sure on what treatment specifically but I do get shots in my head. But as of the las few months my hair has been falling out and getting thinner. But im more prepared now
  • Mary

Just saw your post - "sick of being bare faced and bald :-'( "

I know how you're feeling. It really sucks. When I was losing my eyebrows and eyelashes, I got really depressed. But, I got through it. Hang in there and stay in touch with your friends here on AW. Mary
  • Mary

Yes, Alexis, my eyebrows and lashes came back last year and stayed for about 8 months...even though I tried not to get "attached" to them, I was really down when they fell out again. I've decided that the only way I can deal with this disease is to just try not to have any hopes or thoughts about getting hair back. But, I still have dreams about it!

I get all those comments from people, too, and I agree they can be aggravating. All the time, people tell me what a beautifully-shaped head I have! None of that really helps. But, I have to admit that I use the "it could be worse" on myself. I have several friends who have cancer, and I keep asking myself "what would a woman with cancer give to ONLY have alopecia areata?"

    Take care,
    Mary

Hi Alexis, not going to lie dating at first was very hard, I was so scared in the beginning to tell a guy about me having Alopecia. I usually waited atleast two months to feel the guy out. I think I might have been rejected by one guy, of course I was upset and depress, but then I starting thinking his lost not mines. College was hard my freshman year due to the fact I was living on campus, and I was attending a HBCU, and sometimes we has black folks put some much on hair. It was hard at first, but I made great friends who loved me for who I was.

I also had a great support system with my mom. If you ever need to talk to me feel free to hit me up anytime.

    Peace and Blessings,

    Tobi

PS Don't let anyone steal your joy Alexis.
