I'm sorry you are feeling crummy. I totally understand.
Don't worry about what the doc said about stress. Stress doesn't nescessarily make your hair loss worse. I did a lot of research while writing my book, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" and it turns out that many doctors don't know very much about alopecia and what causes it. But, it's an autoimmune disorder and the hair loss process can be triggered by any number of things.

I think you are right about finding a wig. Are there any good wig shops in your area?
I have two human hair wigs and several synthetics which I think all look really good. The human hair was custom made for me with European hair, and I purchased the syns online at www.wigsalon.com. They give you nice discounts so you don't have to pay as much as you would at a shop. My favorite synthetic brands are Renee of Paris and Noriko.

As far as everyone noticing, that will be only temporary. One story in my book relates a very similar situation where a woman went to work with a new wig. At first everyone noticed -- in a good way -- complimenting her on her hair. She felt very weird with all the attention. But after a week or so, it was just work as usual and her new hair was part of her, and things were normal and good! Now no one even remembers that she wears a wig!

As for staying on, you can get some pretty strong tape that will keep the wig in place. If you get a custom piece, there is a silicone border around the edge of the wig which keeps it secure, even without tape. I use tape anyway.

Let me know how you do!

Thank you! I purchase them at my local salon in WI., I'm not sure where they order them, its custom made to my head and I choose what colors and length. It takes from 6 to 8 wks to make, I think its possibly China?? Then I have my hair stylist/friend cut it. They usually last for a year & a half. How about you?? Any luck, happy with yours??

Oh..I'm sorry!! Just read your profile you probably haven't had to deal with wigs yet.

Hi Nathalie- i wear freedom hair wigs. they are suction cap that essentially does not come off unless you want it off. I am wearing a 14in length in my recent picture ( pink shirt) and if you decide to go that route i'll send you the color combination. you can wear them during all your daily activities--and i wear in teh shower about once a week to wash (or more if need be)--but not to bed. if you wear them to bed you will develop bald spots on the hair piece and it is very expensive to repair. they are very expensive to begin with--the 14in length is around $4,890 i believe. they have financing options should you want to go that route. you need to have a completely shaved head so that the suction works...and can take around 3-5 months to make (from new zealand). i wore a lace wig while waiting for my freedoms to arrive. if you are interested, you can contact a Freedom Wig representative and go from there....good luck to you.

    Hi Nathalie,
I'm not familiar with TE. I'm not sure how its prognosis compares to alopecia. I wear my wig when I am out and working, but not at home. The one in my profile photo is a simple human hair one from Continental Hair in Toronto. That was before lost all of my hair. Now I wear a Freedom Wig. I will post a photo online of that if you're trying to see as many wigs as possible. Take care. You've come to right place for support.

    Hallo Nathalie!

Hi Nathalie, thanks for the nice comments. I do love my hair system it gives me so much freedom. You asked how much it cost. I get a new hair system every 3 months, and go once a month to clean and take off and reattach the system. I pay close to 400 a month. You can have more or less systems a year and that effects the cost. It's a a lot of money but it is totally it worth in my opinion.

Your comment made me realize that I needed to change my profile, not longer a partial piece :(
