    Hi Elizabeth:
Thanks for the note. Nothing traumatic happened to me before I lost my hair. The only thing the doctors could relate it to was that I had a very stressful job at the time and they feel that stress can be a factor that brings on this autoimmune disease. I am retired now and love it. They checked me for other problems like thyroid and lupus but neither was the cause. I do have multiple nodules on my thyroid but the thyroid works properly and I go to a thyroid specialist twice a year for that. The thyroid dr. does not feel my thyroid issue caused the hair loss. My neice lost all her hair when she was 2 but got it all back within a year. Now she is 16 and has developed Type 1 diabetes. She still has a full head of hair. She worries that she will lose her hair again someday and now she has diabetes to deal with. Sorry to hear that your daughter has been so long without her hair. It is such a strange disease and no one can really pinpoint why it happens. The vacuum wig is definitely the way to go for a person who has AU. I would love to hear more about your beautiful daughter. How has she handled AU all her life practically.
    Take care.

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter has other autoimmune problems to deal with as well as the hair loss. I'm sure all of this has made her a strong woman. That's great that she has a supportive husband. Can your daughter afford to buy a vacuum wig? If so, I would really think she should get one as I know she would love it. Does she work or is she a stay at home mom? What is her thyroid issue?

I looked into getting our insurance company to pay for my wig or at least a portion of it but they have an exclusion written into the policy so I was out of luck. That would be great if her insurance company would pay for part of a vacuum wig. It will be so worth it for her especially if she wants to start wearing a wig again. I have a Freedom Wig and in case your daughter would like the information she can contact Karen Peterik @ 1-866-439-7083 or newlifehair@aol.com Karen is very nice and also has AU.
