I'm a young 68 years old, single...I married at 14, was married for 26 years, raised 2 great kids, and got a divorce after my daughter was married and my son was in university. I've been in a relationship with a great guy for seven years, have a darling puppy named Missy who is a Mini Schnauzer-Shih Tzu mix and is the sweetest puppy I've ever had. She is now 5 months old and weights a whopping 6 pounds. I've been not dealing so well with my hair loss. It began about 4 years ago and have NO idea why. I have a feeling it's because my thyroid hormones are messed up, am on hormone meds and they can't seem to get them right. Whatever the reason, it's very hard. I sit home a LOT not going places because I'm embarrassed to have to wear a wig all the time. I can't afford a really good one and I feel like it just shouts "She has a wig on!". I need to find a way to deal with it. I used to go to the gym and work out 3 times a week, but haven't been in AGES because the wig is hot and not easy to do workouts with it on. Now on top of that I'm getting VERY out of shape. I've gained 40 pounds and that is another stress on top of the hair loss. So...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-D
Hi Godfreygirl143 - Welcome to AW from a 66 yo. Maybe we could change that name to GG for short; you're very attractive so that certainly would seem to be appropriate:)? I also have 2 little Shih Tzu mixes but they're rescues so have no idea what comprises the rest of their genetic makeup. You have several "cuties" in those photos:).
I hope being a part of this group gets you out of the house and back at the gym. Yes, wigs are hot. Have you tried bandanas of some form or a lightweight baseball cap? As you are probably aware, the exercise helps us to feel better and relieves stress so staying home may worsen the situation...and weight gain doesn't help our self-esteem..or health. Maybe you could exercise everyday at the same time so the same people are usually there; that would mean less stress with confronting new people? If someone seems to be inquisitive about your hair situation, you might try educating them about the disease. Otherwise, because you're so attractive, it could just be that they are admiring you!!!! I found that people were often wanting to compliment me about "my beautiful hair"; I was wrong about the fact that they thought it was a wig...and these were my inexpensive, synthetic ones. Anyway, glad you were able to find us; this is a good place to be:). ((Hugs)) Susan
I am not a dog or cat person, but I am a people person. You will spend hoooooooours reading my old blogs and discussions and nonsense and advice and captions on my page. Ha ha. Be sure you have enough coffee or wine on hand! Thanks for the Friend Request!
