- I have been treated with cortisone for 2 years for ophiasis. but now it's aggressively falling out all over my head. Ironically, I've had long, thick copper hair down to my knees - known for the "lady with the braid". I'm 62 and my hair is still auburn. I think I will get a wig since my scalp shows all over my head, although I still have a thin, long braid. I wonder what my new look shall be?

Yes, alopecia is humbling. It offers a lot of other gifts as well. Finding out how attached we-- and others-- are to our looks, for example. Lessons, lessons!

I am 59 and have had AU for about 10 years. I love your red hair! I have a daughter and son who both have red hair even though my husband and myself did not. I too had cortisone injections 10 years ago when my hair was falling out in patches but it started to fall out too fast and my dermatologist advised me to quit. I got my first wig when my hair was very thin on top. It was synthetic and didn't cost too much but looked very natural. I've had several wigs over the years both human hair and synthetic. Human hair costs more but will last longer and needs to be styled. Synthetic hair is nice because you don't have to style it but it may need to be trimmed to suit. Finding what will work for you may take some time but if you can find a wig shop that has several styles to try on it will help. Best of luck in your search!
