Hi, I am a 52 year-old single mom. AA for 3 years on and off and then AU for over 7 years after a terribly traumatic year ending with a 3-month illness.

I am struggling to find where my feminine side has been hiding since I lost my hair. This society has drummed into people's minds that physical beauty reigns supreme. That without that - you are nothing. What a terrible message to send to our children!

To go out into the dating world again, at this age and in the "condition" (my word) that I am in is frightening to me. The thought of being rejected or being hurt or insulted for something that I have no control over is just horrible. Does anyone else share that struggle?

    I'm sorry about your fears concerning dating.

    I would never treat you in the ways you fear. As a Southern gentleman, I treat all women like ladies - the way they should be. I know I'm not the only gentleman out there.

    I've dated a woman with alopecia before; that no romance came off had NOTHING to do with her being bald. We just had no common interests, and we still keep in touch.
