I've had alopecia areata since 2006. I'm on my third wig now-- I have had periods of regrowth in-between wigs, the last regrowth being almost 100% 1 1/2 years ago. I saw a lot of medical doctors when I was looking for answers, and the only thing I found out from them for certain was that my hairloss was definitely auto-immune related. I used an ointment on my scalp that achieved decent regrowth called Drithoscalp, however I found that using it was very painful, messy, and the minute you stop, hair begins to fall out again. I worried about the long-term affects of using this prescription for possibly the rest of my life.
I've been very eager to seek out more holistic methods and have just started cutting out gluten in my diet. I tried it once before and was missed wheat too much, but this time, I'm super determined to give it my best shot. I get tired of wearing a wig, and really miss having all my eyelashes and eyebrows. Here's hoping!!
Oh, also, I invite anyone who has tried or is interested in trying natural methods like diet changes, herbs, etc, to let me know how it is going for them!
Hi Majal, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us and we look forward to your input. Cheryl, co-founder
OH Majal!! How'd it go?? I hope well...did you feel a relief when it was gone? And see...I told you that you'd look great with it shaved!! I"m so excited for you...you'll have to fill me in on how it went...etc. WAY TO GO GIRL!!! I'm so proud of you.
oh yeah..and LOVE your profile pic. I'm going to do that tonight myself. I need to show how I am today versus how it was when I first joined and had minimal hairloss.

congrats on shaving your head! i'm getting towards that step... and it was interesting for me to read about styling and cutting your wig. i sorta assumed i would just wear it as is. but styling it makes a lot of sense. i should definitely do that with mine.
I find that losing your hair when you are so young is so hard. I am still not used to it, feel so ugly when i look at myself in the mirror. is only when i put makeup and my wig on then i feel abit better. I am in Cancun now, and is very frustrating because is so hot and i don't want to wear my friggin wig. I want to enjoy my vacation but i don't want people to see my bald head. One night i took my wig off and i am like screw it, I am going into the water. and that feeling was GREAT. but i wear my wig again the next day. Hhaha
Thanks for the adding!
My wig is like the man wigs, do you know? I can wear an adhesive to hold better! And I take shower with it, and it's much more practical than the other ones! I feel fine with it! But if you have hair will have more difficulties to wear these wig!
Kisses,
Rose
Hi Majal, I am had a bad rash a few months ago and the ND told me that I had leaky gut - I have had to cut out all complex carbohydrates and sugar and eat veggies, fruit, fish, chicken, honey and certain nuts and seeds. I am now making a muffin out of almonds as per recipes in the new diet I am following. The rash is gone now and what happened was startling. My body hair has started to grow back and I have lots of clumps of hair on my head growing at different speeds.
I noticed that some of my hair has fallen out recently (which I know is due to stress). In Chinese Medicine they say that the Liver attacks the stomach - which has caused this latest setback.
I have also been taking Chinese herbs to reduce inflammation and heal my stomach/small intestinal lining, mediating, and receiving massage and acupuncture. All of these things really do help and although, it may take a while, I do believe that my hair will completely recover. I just need to cure my digestive system, which has always been a problem for me.
Hi Majal, I really believe that autoimmunity is caused by digestive problems, in most cases having to do with GMOs. I also think that stress has an impact on our digestive system and contributes to the inflammation in the body.
Good on you for shaving your head - it is a big step.
I am having a bit of a set back (losing some hair) because I deviated from my diet and going through a stressful period, but I will get it all back on track soon enough now that I know what is causing the hair loss.
I don't know about the cranial massage - I have never tried it. The herbs you take and the herbs I take will be quite different because of all the complexities of the body - no two are alike, therefore neither will the herbal formula. Keep experimenting - but really pay attention to the food you are eating - I think that is the key.
