Hi Sian, my daughter developed AA 18 months ago, aged 13. By August 2013 she had lost 2/3 of her hair. She had blood tests (which didn't reveal anything abnormal), we were referred to a Dermotologist who couldn't really offer any help - steroid creams showed some results, but as soon as we stopped using them, the hair fell out again. In desperation I started to look into diet/leaky gut syndrome. I started my daughter on the GAPS diet last September and the results have been amazing - after three weeks little red spots appeared on her scalp, followed by fluffly baby soft hair. She now has regrowth everywhere (about 2 inches long now). There is a lot of scepticism about this and some may say it would have grown back anyway, which I guess may be true, but H is so happy now! The Paleo diet and SCD diet follow similar rules - it is quite hard at first and takes some effort, but so, so worth it in my mind. If you want any more information I'd be happy to help.
After the great conferences in Hamilton, Christchurch is hosting the Alopecia conference this year on Oct 21st 2017 (and option family morning Oct 22nd).
