- I was diagnosed with Alopecia August 2013 and have lost most of the hair on my scalp. My doctor commented that I seemed really "centered with all of this", but I don't really know what that means to him. I have my share of highs and lows just like everyone else. I guess I figure that I can't control what's happening to my hair, but I can control how I respond… And that is why I am here... :) The comments and stories I read on this site have reeled me in. There is definitely something to be said about receiving support and advice from people going through the same thing as you.
I continue to wonder where this Alopecian roller-coaster ride will take me, especially since the seat next to me is currently vacant. Dating… It can already be a monster, but dating with Alopecia? That's a whole other beast! ;) The ups and the downs… Sometimes I close my eyes and think if I wish hard enough, the ride will suddenly stop… But as we know (eyes opened or closed), wishing won't change its course.
I've realized there is beauty in all of this… The compassion, support, and needed comic relief from those in my life have only strengthened those bonds. I am in awe of the courage that it must have taken to share your personal stories for the world to see. The inspirational and optimistic narratives are amazing, and those allowing themselves to be vulnerable by expressing the darker side that comes along with the hair loss (confusion, frustration, fear, depression, etc.) are especially admirable because they are not afraid to show such raw feelings- feelings that make us human. - Do you have alopecia?
