For years I told doctors of my symptoms fulling exptecting to be diagnosed with a thyroid condition due to having 3 sisters and my mother with the same. After 15 years of suffering and then demanding (yes, I finally got a physicians assistant to refer me), I was referred to an endocronologist that stated I had Hashimotos! I began taking armour but when that became difficult to get we switched over to Synthroid. At the age of 39, I developed alopecia areata and have been "chasing" spots ever since. Some get rather large. I have steriod injections that seem to slow the spot down somewhat! But both diseases do take their toll on one!
Hi. I also have alopecia areata. I am only three weeks into it and have lost so much hair I had to go get a wig. Last week I saw an endocronologist and was also diagnosed with Hashimotos. My thyroid antibodies were sky high but my TSH/T4 is normal so he is choosing not to treat at this time. What are your thoughts about that as I have read online that you should treat with low dose synthroid as it will slow the disease proecess?
