shear genius.

What a coincidence that the other day as I was combing my new wig, I was wondering what would happen if the contestants on Shear Genius had to cut and style wigs for alopecia and cancer patients and voila! This past Wednesday night on Shear Genius, eight women with alopecia were on the show, spreading awareness and having wigs styled for the episode's challenge.

Good for you, Bravo, for using this fabulously addicting reality show (I've been a fan since season one!) to… Continue

Dotty's Inspirational/Motivational Reflection

“You exist. You are alive. Gather your strengths, not your weaknesses. What are your strengths? Your strengths are consciousness, kindness, understanding, acknowledging, rejoicing, loving. And when you walk with these, the outcome is beautiful.”

Joke shows all around acceptance but I'm itchy

[So my son (11) comes up to me and says, "Mom, if your were a bird, what kind of bird would you be?

I thought " What a thoughtful question, great to start a conversation. "Well son, I think...."

'You'd be a bald eagle!" Then he ran away as I playfully tried to punch him.Smartass.

I'm so itchy its driving me crazy!!!! If I where my hot heavy wig I get a headache and my head itches. If i wear a hat, it itches. I have accepted my hair is leaving but What the heck!!!! My hair… Continue

To bare or not to bare...

I finally did it, I git tiered of holding on to what little hair I had left and shaved it off. I was a little nervous at first, but after I was done it felt liberating. I was no longer holding on to that little bit of hair that was left. I quite like my bald head.

XFusion

Hi everybody,

I have been finding myself reccomending this product more and more recently. It works great for patchy hair loss and is purley cosmetic.
I was only able to use it for a few months but I loved it.

I thought anyone who is a candidate should know about it.

OMG I'm so nervous!

My boss took a vacation day yesterday, which was nice because it gave me another day to not think about having to quit. But he's back today. I was planning to give my notice tomorrow, but now that he's here I just don't think I can wait. It feels too awful keeping it from him. As much as I hate my job, he's a good guy. So yeah...I'm gonna give my notice towards the end of the day today (so he can have the evening to freak out rather than freaking out while I'm here). I plan to give him 3 weeks… Continue

Following the baptism of Jesus in Jordan, Jesus retreated to the desert. At his baptism, Jesus had heard the voice of God telling him, "You are my Beloved Son." This was all new and strange for Jesus who before had only known himself to be a carpenter from Nazareth. Jesus went into the desert to think about his identity, where he was also tempted by an evil voice that lay within him.

The first temptation was a temptation of power. The voice… Continue

Somebody has to be the hero...

You know when your relationship starts to slip a little. You can feel the distance between you growing and tension rising. It's not like nobody notices, but rather that no one is doing anything about it. I'm tired, I feel like I'm all on my own and I've been playing the hero for too long.

BFF

They say ‘for every door that closes, another opens”. While not quite certain who they are or where to send a thank you card, I am grateful that ‘they’ are right. Last week was a train wreck as you may have gathered from my previous blog. A door had slammed closed. This week started down the same set of tracks when I received a call that the brother of a very close friend had passed.

Wakes and funerals have a way of putting life in perspective. I may have lost my hair but those dear… Continue

Surrendering to your circumstances

With alopecia I still believe that the struggle is internal and the only way to rise above it is to overcome it internally.

At one time or another in everybody lives we are going to meet up with a situation that we can not control. At that point we have 2 choices, to either keep fighting a fight that we can not ultimately win or we can choose to surrender.

Most people think of surrender as a negative, a weakness or giving up. But I see surrender as learning to…

Something interesting came to me in meditation on Wednesday. I won't use the 'W' word [weird], although it would be an accurate word to describe it.

I had been reflecting on the video of Pema Chodron we were watching in class. While watching this video, it was almost like this complete deja v experience--everything she spoke of seemed so real to me, and almost like I'd heard it before. It was as if the world around me disappeared when the video… Continue

The worst summer ever!!!!!!!!!

This year we have had the worst summer ever. The weather has been terrible with lots of rain and on many days it has been cold but the sun actually shone briefly on Sunday. What a wonderful feeling it was to have the warmth of the sun on my bald head. It felt as though it was how I should always be and this only served to confirm my view that despite now having re-growth all over, I will continue to shave my head and continue with my new image of being bald or at the very least the proud owner… Continue
