Hi all,
Need some help and advice. I have alopecia totalis, i was diagnosed in june and now have no hair at all on the top of my head. I always said i would never shave it as iwanted to keep any hair that i had left...well it's now got too much and I thought, how about I do a sponsered shave? I want to shave my head and donate the money to some sort of alopecia charity but dont know how to go about it...any advice?
Thanks xxx

Yesterday was my first day with a wig, it was extremly uncomfortable. A really pretty front lace synthetic shoulder length dark brown. I guy at work said "someone whent to the hairdresser, Nice!". I should mention that last week I had a really short light brown haircut. So they don't seem to care or notice.
However pretty I looked I felt horrible, uncomfortable and just wanted to flush the wig down the toilet. But i couldn't because underneath was my horrible patchy unflattering…

I started to post this as a response to the question “Why do you shave your head?,” which Pam Fitros asked this Alopecia World group. I posted this blog instead because I wanted to share my answer with the entire community.
Back in 2010 I saw an advertisement for “It’s All Good Hair,” a “natural hair” workshop and celebration sponsored by the Shrine…

Nothing warms my heart more than someone wanting to shave their head to support people with medical hairloss. I was thinking of a simple enough event I could hold in honour of alopecia awareness month. Needless to say my time is running short for planning an event but if not in September, it will be done at least in time for me to fundraise for my missionary venture to Guatemala in February. My issue comes not from planning an event but from an extraordinary request from my 9 year old daughter.…

The hairloss has gotten a lot worse since those pictures on my profile were taken, and Ive lost half my left eyebrow and a huge chunk on my right eyebrow. My hairloss on my head has been SO itchy. I've been thinking about shaving my head for almost a month now, and I have been talking about it with my mom, step dad Rick, and my boyfriend, Jeremy. Took a while for my mom and Rick, but they are finally understanding my feelings towards my hair. My boyfriend is the most amazing guy ever and has…

Hi y'all!
So here's my decision: I'm shaving my remaining hair off at the end of the summer and ordering a vacuum wig. And I'm actually really excited! YAY!
Here's the thing. When should I tell a guy that I'm wearing a wig and my head is shaved? Do I do it before we get into a relationship? On the first date? When I sense things are going somewhere between us? I'm currently flirting and kinda dating this one guy who I met relatively recently. He doesn't know about my hair…

I finally cut my hair off and I feel great!! I still wear my lace wigs but I was just holding on to my hair when there was really no need to. PLease excuse the adhesive I was just about to apply my wig before taking the 1st photo!

I don't know what happened to cause this but I think I'm having an epiphany of sorts. I'm fed up with looking like Homer Simpson on top, and only a few pitiful strands underneath. Why I didn't reach this point sooner I don't know, but I think coming back to this forum has convinced me that I can admit the truth - my hair won't grow back - and that this is perfectly OK. For whatever reason, I was MEANT to be bald, and so I'm finally going to accept it and buzz the rest off. I'm not yet brave…

Well it is now just over a month ago that I shaved my head for my second bout of Alopecia. How time flies!!!!!!
What I have noticed this time around is that my patches are much less visible as it seems that my hair falling out was much more a case of thinning rather than just large patches. There are a couple of large patches but in the main the bulk of the hair that fell out was very definitely a thinning of my hair whereas the first time I shaved my head there was a lot of big…

Okay, so it's only day 3 and I'm still floating on the pink cloud of empowerment. But I had fun in the shower today shaving my stubble instead of bemoaning the loss of hair. (I bought a Headshave and am slowly getting the hang of it.) Last night I went to my writer's group meeting and "flipped my wig" for them. I've sent pictures to lots of my family and closest friends and have gotten a really positive response. I love the feel of cool air on my head. I love my new wig but I love being without…

I went back to see
Linda to have my new LONG wig fitted. Its definitely not for everyday wear, but something fun to wear once in a while....

I also had Linda shave my head using clippers last night. My head is still patchy, but looks much better. My head is so fuzzy - I just want to rub it all the…
