I found a cure!
Hello everyone,
March 2016: I got AA 9 years back. It slowly developed into AU. I tried many doctors, many treatments and nothing worked. I started accepting my condition after joining this group and learned to live with it, which is a good thing. At the same time, I was starting to give up hope.
Two years back, I thought I'll try my last shot with Dr.Richard Strick. At first I was skeptical with the treatment. I have tried a similar one where the cream irritates the scalp and triggers hair growth. I tried it anyway. After 6 months of patience, I saw my hair back. Still I was pretty confident it will fall off (remember I have gone through the same cycle for 7 years already!). Here's the awesome twist - this time my hair stayed!!!
I cannot try to explain my joy! Everyone please try the treatment, even if you don't think it will work for you. "Remember hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies."

December 2017: I wanted to update you guys that I'm still enjoying my full head. I get like 2 small patches every month but I immediately apply the medicine and new hair starts growing in a week.

FreakSince13. The ointment only comes from a compounding pharmacy so the container would vary depending on the one the pharmacy uses. Ours looks somewhat like a white film container with a screw-on lid and the DNCB is mixed with a aquaphor/vaseline type base. It basically looks just like a slightly yellow vaseline. One month's supply is $50 and is not covered by our insurance. Dr Madkan doesn't take insurance and even though my son is covered on dual insurance, neither one does out-of-network payments, so the entire cost of the monthly appointments are out of pocket for us. They went up recently, I believe $175. Initial appointments can be more than $175. My son has an entire head of white hair that is getting longer and starting to darken in spots. He started seeing Dr Madkan in December.
Regarding Eyebrows/Lashes......Per doctor's suggestion, we are also putting the ointment on his eyebrows for about 2 hours in the evening, then wiping it off before bed. We leave the DNCB on his head overnight. He had about 70% eyebrow loss and it has stopped any additional loss and white hairs are growing in where the eyebrows had fallen out. We see no difference in his missing row of eyelashes. We obviously can't apply the ointment on his eyes.

Thanks very much for this information, Penny, I really do appreciate you taking the time. I assumed the ointment/cream was readily available. I don't live in the United States, I thought I'd be able to get it where I live, but since you've said that it's made at a Compounding Pharmacy, I'm out of luck. Thanks again for the details. FreakSince13. I’m sure you can find a pharmacy in your country which prepares this. I would suggest calling Dr.Madkan and getting a referral of a local doctor and local pharmacy’s details.

DNCB...I looked it up. May cause contact dermatitis so this is what I'm assuming your "Cure" is.
I'm very skeptical to say the least...More snake oil...

Two years on DNCB, and my son with alopecia totalis now has about 95% complete hair regrowth. The temple area is being a little stubborn, but hair is coming back, just slowly. His head is covered in thick hair, not patchy. He has some eyelash regrowth, but we can't treat the eyelashes with DNCB. Eyebrows are completely back. Luckily my son started the treatment within a year of his diagnosis. It increased his chance of success.
