My body is starting to go through changes once again where I am beginning to loose the hair again...like my eyelashes. Not worried about my legs, that will just save me more time in not having to shave...lol But what is bothering me more is how my nails are becoming severely affected to the point where it hurts because they are sore. I have noticed the change in my nails within the past two weeks where the nail bed has become weak and my nails are breaking at the meat. I was reading on one website dermnetnz.org where it states that nail diseases affects between 10%-50% of people who have Alopecia Areata. Is there anyone else that are having issues with their nails? If so, what nail products do you use to strengthen your nails? I had teh piting and ridging and I was able to some Sally Hansen products to cover that up but I am experiencing a different type of nail changes.

yep my nails are either soft or flaking, have ridges and paper thin.

Yes Elaine! My nails are paper thin and they hurt a little like a bruise. I did increase my biotin and I am polishing my nails with Sally Hansen's Miracle Growth in the gold bottle along with rubbing cuticle oil on my nails every other night. I am waiting to see my doctor this week to see what he can prescribed. I am dreading going to the doctors because I always feel like a guinea pig.

I usually save the nail salon for special events. I did get the gel nail polish a couple months ago & that was nice.

Hello Nicole. Biotin is a B-vitamin... you should look into a liquid complex b-vitamin supplement. Also, you should re-evaluate your diet, make sure you get more raw vegetables into your diet. Raw foods contain MSM which is important for hair and nail development. Possibly consider a liver cleanse, colon cleanse, and adding some large amounts of probiotics into your diet. Probiotics like lactobacillus and acidophilus are important for your body to use the nutrients you're putting into it, although you may know this stuff. I'm doing all this too, have burning on my scalp and severe hair loss... take biotin, turmeric, MSM, amino acids, flax seed oil, eliminated dairy, sugar, and gluten from my diet and only hope to god for improvement. Also, I started the Body Ecology Diet, which is essentially adding cultured foods to your diet to get all the nutrients possible and helping your immune system naturally. Good luck, I hope your nails and hair improves soon... but seriously look into these things... they could make a good difference.

Hey Sarah. Thanks for your comment. I have been doing some research on foods that I can eat that will give me the proper nutrients to boost my immune systems, but I get so overwhelmed with all the information that is out there. I am actually looking into the juicing diet that contains raw veggies & fruits. The other day, I noticed that I lost a chunk of my eyelashes. I posted some pics on blog to show how full my lashes were from recovering for univeralis & a pic of my missing lashes. I am trying to think of the past events that occurred in the last few weeks that could have stimulated my immune system to attack itself again. I just cannot think of anything.

Hey there! you're welcome. Guess what... I did the juicing diet, it is great to incorporate fresh vegetable juices into your diet, but know what veggies are good to juice together... fruits should be consumed on an empty stomach, not with veggies because they're acid... veggies are alkaline. Anyway, also look on Craigslist for a juicer before you go and buy a new one... it also matters what type of juicer you get. The Jack Lalane one WASTES a lot, get a Champion juicer if you can. I found one on Craigslist for 100.00... it works great. It may not be an event that triggered your system, it could be food... it could be just plain undeterminable what the source is. Sorry about your lashes... I get like 5 at once sometimes, it's depressing and random. Know that before starting a specific diet, you should do a cleanse... introduce good probiotics so you can absorb all the nutrients possible. I'm no expert but have read and studied a lot on all of this. Good luck Nicole, hopefully this works for you... for all who are attempting on helping their health.

Update: I went to the doctor's last week & had a ton of blood test done. I received my results a couple days ago and every thing came back normal except one test. My vitamin D level was extremely low. My doctor has prescribed for me to take one capsule of Vitamin D 50,000 IU once a week for 12 weeks. So right now I am trying to figure out a regime where I can make sure I am getting the adequate amounts of vitamins everyday preferably through food. I am just not a good pill taker. Does anyone else have problems with their vitmain D levels?

I never had a baseline vitamin D level done. I started taking vitamin D 1000=2000 iu 3-4 times a week for a couple of years then finally goy a blood test done. My result was on the low end of normal. So I am continuing with my regular regime.
